Tell me about it.

My right hand side is constantly sore and i get tired from sleeping on one side then i find my self sleeping on my back. Then bd will wake me up in the middle of the night saying im going to kill his baby  Well the last time i was sleeping on my tummy and didn`t feel any discomfort but he was shouting when he woke up & saw how i was sleeping :(

The joys of pregnancy!

I asked my gynae about sleeping on my back etc. He basically said your body will tell you what's ok for you. If you feel fine and comfy on your back then go for it. If you start feeling light-headed after lying on your back then avoid it. Basically what happens is that the 2 main blood vessels get squashed by the weight of your baby when you lie on your back. It won't affect the blood flow to baby at all, but it can affect the blood flow to your own body so go with how you feel.

Lying on your right side the one main blood vessel gets squashed, so although blood can get to your body (legs etc) it struggles to get back to your heart so you might find yourself getting swollen (feet and legs) and tingling/numb. Then just flip to your left side and it should clear up.

Left side is best, but even he agreed it's virtually impossible to sleep an entire night on one side. So basically he said go with what your body tells you.

everything i read seems to say that sleeping on your back slows the blood flow to the baby down so you should avoid it.

But i feel and hear your pain... my hips hurt so they wake me at night, so i start on one side then after an hour or two i will roll over and hurt the other for an hour or so then wake up go to the loo... and start all over. Hubby hates it coz i wake him when i rollover... but thats just how its got to be

and some nights or should i say mornings i guess my body over-rules my brain in my sleep and i wake up having been sleeping on my back...

But if you get desperate what i found works is go sleep on the couch... you can lean your back on the back of the couch and take the weight off your poor poor hips for a while.
