Nelria - I also don't bother with check-ups. I know my child is doing fine for now and I if I think there is a problem I won't hesitate but at R550 a go just for the doc to say "yes he's very healthy", not necessary for me but to each his own ;)

I'm somewhere between 12-13 weeks, because my cycle varies between 28-35 days doc isn't sure, at 8week scan he worked it on LMP and 35days which would make me 12 weeks today but on Tuesday he said maybe its a bit more than that as baba was measuring 12wk5 days...which would be closer to a 28 day cycle lol. As far as I know they can do Downs test between 11-14weeks usually? Might be wrong there though, I go back in 4 weeks so I'm sure he'll have another look then. He's chilled out and kinda leaves me to it, he just asks what vitamins I'm on and he can see I'm fairly healthy and don't really need to be taking much other than a good pregnancy vitamin and maybe some calcium a bit later on. As for the sex, he has a brand new machine which I imagine helps in that department but from what I understand some docs can detect early on, others need a bit more time and of course it all depends on the way the baby is lying and I suppose some babies genitals are more obvious than others . I didn't ask about the sex he just said he has a fairly good idea what it is ;)

Eeeeuw Helen lol what a mess that must have been

I'm also pro check-ups, that's why we do vac's etc at paed. She doesn't stress too much with milestones but just asks a couple questions to make sure, like at last visit all she asked was is he saying words now ...

Are you guys giving the kids the booster measles vaccines? The paed recommended that we give it so I just said we'll do it in a months time ... didn't want my baby getting 3 injections at one go, shame...

Julz, the paed that Nelria and I use also has never asked about milestones but he does notice things and will tell you about it. The twins were almost walking last time we were there and without even knowing he said that he could see with the way Aidan's feet are that he is going to walk soon. I was like "WTF?" lol. He is a very strange man and has a wierd sense of humour but he is amazing with kids. Abi used to cry if she saw any doctor but with him she was so intrigued. While he works with him he whispers and does all these funny things that just interests them. He is really good!

Helen grossssssssssss.

 nicole!!!

ally our paed does not ask about milestones at all! Never has. He is very laid back and gives no advice. You are on your own unless you ask, but at lease I don't feel bad. My friend always feels like a failure when she leave the paeds office.

Check ups are important. Just my feeling though. Often things are picked up during early stages and can be treated. It's when we leave niggles that larger problems occur. Me and my heartburn for eg.

Dylan has had his ears tested so that is great. One less thing to worry about. He must go to the dentist now.
