Newborn and baby advice

Hello Ladies
I'm still here scribblingAl (thanks for noticing I'd been quiet), just been a bit moody and each time I get around to responding to this thread (which takes me ages because I write essays).. something pops up and I don't get around to it. I am always reading though,nice to hear how everybody is doing, and their LO's.
My son had flu and my hubby had some weird sweaty body flu thing too - so between my toddler being up and my hubby snoring the place down thanks to fluey blocked nose, oh and of course Lia's wakings, sleep has been dismal. Everybody seems to be healthy again though but Lia's been fighting sleep during the day which means that she is super cranky most of the time. I know it is just a phase and I must keep at trying to wind her down when she starts getting tired, but geez.. it is exhausting. My poor toddler gets so neglected sometimes.. I use to spend hours doing arts/crafts with him or taking him places or teaching him new things. Oh well, I'm sure within the next month or two Lia will start consolodating her sleep and taking proper day naps.

LOL, Des, I think the whole world held my son when I took him to the office (before I resigned to become a SAHM) - I have a hard time saying NO to people - but, he soon screamed when he realized stranger were holding him anyway, lol. Of course with Lia I don't have a work so not as many people have held her.

I had to laugh when you ladies mention going to the grocery store being liberating.. amazing how things change when you become a mom... totally different priorities and just so different. We get so little times for ourselves that even the smallest thing can be like WOW that was no biggie before.

Yes, we went to dinner and left Emily with my mother-in-law. And then the day before yesterday we went for a walk and left her with my MIL again. It's hard leaving her alone with someone other than us but it's something I will have to get used to - dropping her off at day care when I go back to work. There is a lot of trust involved. And hope. That she will be ok.

I've been keeping up to date with office emails as I can access them remotely, but there are no plans to take Emily to work. I'm going to have to do it sometime though. People are already threatening to come and visit...

Desiree, when you get 10 hours (I'm sure it will happen sometime. Oh please let it happen sometime) I will take you out for drink!!! There's no sign of it happening here anytime soon - we're still on a four-hour schedule.

Hi ladies...

So, I took Connor to my office today, the whole office was there and they have been pestering me to see Connor - he he it was "interesting" - an office is not the most comfortable place to have a baby...nowhere to lie him down, etc and NOISY..and full of people and you know how it is, everyone wants to have a look at the baby...and hold him (which i didnt allow) and touch him!! Anywhere, its done now, I wont easily take him to my office again unless he is older...and walking maybe!

Anyway, I picked up my laptop from work today, I only have a month left of maternity leave and then its off to work, so I want to start getting reacquainted with my emails again - Im not planning on working this last month, just keeping myself up to date!

@Lientie - wow, congrats on the "roll" - your lg seems to be doing so well - well done Mommy!!

@Mommy21 - I'm glad your man is back, its great to have help with the baby - I know we can do it alone, but, its so much better to have some help & support hey? it makes it a little easier to be a new mommy

@Pinky - lol @ the SPAR - ha ha, when I go off to the Spar, or Woolies on my own, it feels so LIBERATING, I love it too ... so I completely understand how you ladies feel...Im so glad Hein is home tonight, from tomorrow I will be able to breathe again, I'll have some help with the feeding and changing and just the general house stuff you know, I've felt like a single mom this past 3 weeks of being alone, its not fun at all, Im looking forward to having a nice long bath while Hein watches Connor - I've even arrange a ladies breakfast for all the girls in my family on Sunday morning, all the kiddies are stayign with their dads and just the moms are going for a nice breakfast and skinner session - I can't wait!!

@ScribblinGal - I also get jealous when I hear of these ladies babies sleeping so long - ha ha, I wonder what it is Im doing wrong? Connor sleeps well some nights and badly other nights, Im getting so used to the sleep deprivation I think its starting to bother me less - I'd LOVE it though if he slept for 10hours in a row, damn, I'll celebrate if he does.

@Nicky - the nagmark sounds fabulous, Im jealous... do you take Liebe with or does she stay with your MIL?

Have any of you ladies left your lo's with a sitter or a MIL yet, at night? Hein and I are going to be taking his Secretary and her hubby out for dinner, as she resigned and he missed her farewell, anyway, we will have to leave Connor with a babysitter, and Im stressing out because we havent left him with anyone other than eachother yet..

Pinky, I laughed at you going to Spar. It's crazy how even Spar seems so cool now. I also feel as though I'm doing laundry for Africa now. Her washing basket gets full so quickly, what with all the leaking nappies and the puking. Oh, by the way I bought a bottle of Woolite. It doesn't seem to be on special in Jozi, unless I'm just being dof. I must say that I'm a little jealous of your expressing capabilities and Karla sleeping through the night, sigh.

Nicky, watch out, you'll have us all moving to Heidelburg. Sounds divine, the nagmark. I get these images of a little village in Europe somewhere. How often do they hold it?

Pinky so glad to hear you've had a good nights sleep.When Liebe does that and I wake up the next morning it feels i've been on holiday.He he about the Spar , I escape to Pick&Pay.I must admit a break is sometimes good.Glad Karla took the bottle.When I used to breasfeed Liebe she used to drink more than the amount of formula she is currently drinking.

Wow Lientjie your little girl is growing really well.Congrats on the roll over!!! They grow to fast.hehe

Desiree,Yeah for you as Hein is back today!!!

Liebe is still in her routine which makes my life so much easier but she's got this new thing she doesn't cry she SCREAMS and my ears can't handle that high pitched scratcy scream.

I'm so looking forward to this evening , we stay in heidelberg which is an old town so they have a "nag mark" and the whole town goes.And they have big bond fires and home made sweets and lots of stalls that sells all things thats not commercialized and they always have this men choir singing and friend and families are sitting outside chatting and kiddies running around it just got this cool cosy atmosphere.I love it as I'm not big on commercial stuff.Love something with a difference and it's own uniqueness.

I forgot to add the best bit... She rolled over yesterday!!! Unfortunately I didn't see it Left her on her playmat while I quickly went to the loo and when I got back she was lying flat on her back with a big grin on her lil' face

Good morning ladies

Haven't posted in quite a while...

It is going very well with us, seems like the chiro is working wonders. She feels much better and doesn't cry the whole day anymore, the cramps is also better!!

Karla has been sleeping for more than 10 hours at night for the past 2 nights... I don't know if this is a new thing with her now, but I don't mind, cause I had a WONDERFUL full nights sleep last night!!

We are going to weigh her again today, looking forward as to how much she has gained!!

We gave her a full bottle last night and she took it very well, drank everything and was so satisfied... I think she drank about 125 ml. I don't know how much they are suppose to drink at her age... Now if I express I get a whole bottle (150 ml) in 15 minutes... Don't know if it is the pump of my milk, but I am very happy with that!

@Mommy21 - I am glad your fiancè is back, it helps a lot if you can just have a moment now and then to yourself!!

@ScribblinAl - It is good that you can drive now, it gives you a bit of independence... if my hubby comes home in the evening the first thing I do (not everyday) is give Karla to him and go to Spar ALONE... That is the best half an hour for me, just me and spar... hehehe... hopefully soon it will be better shops than just spar...
