Um ScribblingAl sorry but I think it can as Beansmom says its sh1t. But then again there have been some good days too. So will hold thumbs for you. Where you going to be staying here?

The Routine last night worked like a bomb. Aimed for around 8. But what happened before was not fun. DH was trying to give G his bottle (which he so does not like any more) and I was doing supper. G was getting more and more worked up. So I went and did his bath while supper was in the oven. I wanted to Bfeed him but DH said he just wants comfort and must learn to find comfort from others too. DH then put him in the bath and he was in a state. After about 2 mins he was all calm and happy. He was then bathed, dried and creamed (which he normally screams through) all calm and happy. I fed him and put him in bed. He then slept 8 30 till 3 then woke again at 5 30. Hmmm maybe Hubby os right at times. :P So this will be a permanent now, clearly he likes it.

What are the plans for the weekend?
Probably shopping tomorrow. Need a bath seat, any one using the mesh ones (wire and material)? I am going to try go down to Simons Town On Sunday for my Bday. Want to see the penguins. Depends on the weather.

@ Scribblingal.. weather in Cape Town is SH1T - scuz the french... Today is overcast, windy and icy cold... easily about 10 degrees outside - i know that when hubby left this morning it was all of 3 degrees! So best you pack your winter woolies and some!!!

I totally agree with your take on Baby Sense book - some of the things have made perfect sense and worked... but the sleeping thing not so much - when Tayla is hungry she is hungry... sometimes during the day i can play a little with her and get her to stretch like an hour over her feed - but at 4am I am in no mood to play and a screaming baby is just not an option!!!

Oh PS Pinky, I have learnt to take everything in the BabySense book with a big pinch of salt. That book is like all the pictures of heaven with little angels playing harps on fluffy white clouds. If Baby's hungry Baby needs to eat, regardless of how many hours it's been.

Bronz, how's that routine working out for you? Any luck with the sleeping? We'll be in your neck of the woods on Wednesday. Going to Cape Town for a holiday sounded like a really good idea a month ago when it was warmer!!! How bad is the weather there now? It can be no worse than Joburg.

Pinky, have you tried the pharmacist at Wilgemed? I always find him a real help. As for Karla, don't worry too much. I read that the best thing you can do for your baby when you're sick is breastfeed. When you have something contagious such as a cold, she was already exposed to it before you even knew you were sick. Your milk has antibodies in it so this will prevent Karla from getting sick or if she does get sick she won't be half as bad as her mother :)

Hey Ladies

Well tonight I am starting a strict routine. Last night it took us an hour to get G to sleep then he kept waking himself up for about an hour. Oh and swaddling him. Anything to make him sleep beter. Any hints welcome. :P

Mrs SH: They say they drop it on their own when they are ready and you can only force them to go through the night at 6 months with out a feed. But at the same time I have heard that you can make them drop a feed after they have for a certain amount of time bacause then they dont need it.

Claudia_B: Yay. I did the same thing when G had dropped a feed. Ran and checked up on him. If you find you wake from the engorgement you can express for that feed.

Pinky: Sorry to hear you are sick. Does not help you not being able to take much, at least you have something now hope it works.

Hope you are all keeping warm.

Hi ladies

I am having the most terrible cold ever!!! Feeling absolutely terrible and there is not a lot that I can take for it!
I went to Dischem yesterday to get me something and the stupid pharmacist gave me some cough and cold syrup that is homeopathic for like R80 and it doesn't work! Went to another pharmacist today and he gave me some sinus tabs or something that seems to work better and is cheaper!!! Luckily I have something to drink now, as I was scared to take something that will influence my milk production or transfer to Karla...
I really hope that she won't get my cold as well, that would not be nice!!!

Karla is in a weird place at the moment... she wakes up so much these couple of nights, I don't know what is wrong with her, where she has always slept between 8 and 9 hours she wakes up every 3 hours!!! TERRIBLE!!! The baby sense book says to not feed her if she wakes up before 6 hours, but there is no other way to let her go back to sleep!!! Such a frustration... I will just ask the sister at the clinic tomorrow!!

Have good day ladies!

@Mrs SH: I think usually if youfeed more frequently in the day they will stretch longer at night but some babies have a mind of their own. I would sag try it for a Week or two and see how you go. I wouldn't force him to drip a feed this young - he will drop it when he's ready and you don't want to mess around with growth spurt etc now

Claudia: awesome he slept through! That is fantastic. I found if you manually express a small amt out you can get back to sleep and still have enough milk for baby. Do a very small amt though. Then if he continuously drops that feed your boobs will still know to adjust their supply. Re his routine - yah sometime he gets hungry earlier and I feed him but not often - usually only growth spurts. I like the routine because I know that if he's crying at say 3 he's probably tired not hungry. Plus it means I can get to the shops / out to lunch etc and know how much time I have. I also try to not let him sleep immediately after a feed. So feed activity sleep nappy feed etcetc. My paed said some babies just don't like routines so if your James us happy and putting on weight and sleeping well like genus you are doing a great job and I wouldn't stress about it.
