file Should I take her to the doctor again??

Let us know what the Dr says.
The smelly breath definitely does sound like Tonsillitis. Also, if the Dr prescribes another antibiotic, you must used a probiotic with it, Rhueteri drops are excellent, they will prevent any potential thrush infections and also prevent any stomach cramps which the antibiotics may cause.

All the best!

Jaiden, I wish the doctor could just tell me WHAT she's got. It's so easy for them so say it's a viral thing, but why can't they pinpoint what exactly it is??? The doc didn't even suggest the antivirals!
I still don't even know wether she really had tonsillitis or wether that was because of the viral thing?

Stacey i did start with the probiotics when we started the antibiotics. Think I'm going to make it a daily thing from now on!

Hi Marilu,

It sounds like what my son had. It is called the herpes simplex virus.
it starts with a sore throat and high fevers. No amount of antiboitics will help as itis a viral infection. Only anti virals given by the doctor will helpThe sores appear round the mouth tongue and the even externally ie the sold sores.
it lasts roughly abt 2 weeks. the kids don't want to eat and drink but after the sores appear, it dries after a few days. it is very painful!
hope your little one feels better soon

Hope you get it sorted! Our eldest suffered terribly with allergies in SA and also quite often had the smelly breath from post nasal drip and swollen tonsils( in the end, her tonsils were a large swollen mess, doing more harm than good)

Also agree that a cure of probiotics could do her good. When my girls have been sick, i do a week or 2 of probiotics and then even during winter without being sick just to 'help' them out a bit!!

I have 2 little girls and we living in Hong Kong.

Just spoke to Mig's paed. He said the antibiotics would have made the sores worse. It's not thrush, it's a viral infection (apparently doing it's rounds). She's also got sores around her mouth on the outside.

Made an appointment at 16:15 today, will then find out if she's still got tonsillitis. (Please pray that she hasn't still got that!!)

Staceylee, the hand foot and mouth disease sounds similar to what Mig has at the moment. Will post tonight what the doc's diagnosis is.

I Second Huggles. The white spots are definately thrush and you should apply the Daktarin inside her whole mouth. This will probably be from the anitbiotic so you will need to give her some Retueri or Culturelle as well. The smelly breath is definately from the tonsilitis and stopping an antibiotic is not something you want to do unless there is an allergic reaction to it. She will need another course of antibiotics now to clear the tonsils or she will remain sick. The thrush wont clear if her immunity is down.

Replied by Huggles on topic Re: Should I take her to the doctor again??
I would suggest taking her back to the doctor (but perhaps a different one). Smelly breath is often an indicator of tonsilitis and if you stopped the antibiotic mid-course and she does in fact have tonsilitis then you'll need a different one now to treat it.
Also, all those white sores on the tongue and mouth sounds to me like thrush (which i think can be caused by antibiotics). But it is possible she was allergic to either the Daktarin or the antibiotic as she should have been getting better, not worse, on the medication. So i would definitely recommend taking her back to the doctor.
