file Should I take her to the doctor again??

Huggles I did take her to a homeopath, and since then she's on the tissue salts which helps alot with her allergies. BUT the homeopath moved to JHB and I don't want to go to 'any' homeopath and don't know where to start looking?

Marilu, have you ever tried taking her to a homeopath? Perhaps one that has a 'normal doctor' background as well so that if they truly feel antibiotics are necessary they will prescribe them. But if they believe that some alternative homeopathic medicine might help then they can try that first. Just a thought...

Julz, with Mig's history of antibiotics I prefer that they take blood to find out what exactly is wrong. I couldn't get hold of the ENT over the weekend to find out what to substitute the antibiotics with, and the paed told me that the antibiotics made the sores worse.

It's not thrush in her mouth, it's sores. I've been using the Daktarin for 5days and still no improvement, only worse.

I did use the probiotics with the antibiotics and clearly it didn't stop the stomach cramps.

Would have preferred to take Migs back to the ENT but he clearly let me know that the viral thing I can take Migs to the paed for treatment.

I've taken Migs to about 7 doctors and 2 ENT's in her little 19months, and all of them really writes out scripts for antibiotics way too easily.

Edited because after I read what I posted, I realize that I sound like a total bitch. I know doctors save lives and Mig's current ENT actually really is a GOOD doctor. Just this time round it felt like he didn't do enough, he just prescribed meds. Her current paed also is ALWAYS available, that's the reason I don't want to move her to a new doc.

The sleeplessness and worry about sick LO is just making me sound so rude..sorry!!

The only sure way to tell that it is a bacterial inf is to do blood tests and our paed says it is too traumatic to have blood drawn so if the fever persists for 3 days then even though it may be a virus, one needs to possibly treat it as a bacterial infection. This is standard procedure. Then one needs to use an antibiotic and FINISH the course or the bacteria (if not virus) may mutate and become resistant to meds.

Ideally you should give a probiotic with the antiobiotics or kids can get thrush which would appear in the mouth. Daktarin would be the best bet if it is thrush but has to be applied often and for about a week after it is clear.

I always prefer to take myself or Dylan back to the same doctor who treated him or myself first. They have the history.

Once your lo is sorted then possibly look for another dr if you do not trust your current doc.

Elamsmom, thanks :) I told my partner yesterday that if it wasn't for all these illnesses and snotnoses, being a mom would have been easy!! (or so it feels!).

Sharon I did use the Reuteri drops while she was on the antibiotics :(

Thanks for the suggestion Huggles, I didn't even think about that :)

One little on the side suggestion. If you're worried about her not eating and if she's not keen on her milk, it could be because milk burns the sores. Try giving her Ensure to drink. It is mixed with water instead of milk (so doesn't burn) but contains all the necessary nutrients - it is basically a meal in a glass.

Hi Marilu.

Don't have any advice but I religiously read these threads so that I can be (a little...I hope!) prepared incase my LG comes down with any of these illnesses/viruses.

Hope your LO gets better soon. it's heartbreaking to see them in any pain or discomfort.
