file NOT SLEEPING 13 MONTHS IN

That's crazy! I can't believe he stays awake that long! You must be exhausted! At least your Paed is taking you seriously, mine looked at me like I was crazy and over-exaggerating! But Colby only started sleeping through after Indy was born, so it's almost 4 years since I slept through the night and I'm going a little crazy. I give Allergex now and then when her allergies flare up, and she sleeps a little longer.

She has 7 teeth now, just cut 3 new ones these last 2 weeks. I don't think her teeth bother her though, no fever and no bad bum rashes. I'm just out of ideas. I did sleep training with her (which I have always been against but I was so desperate) so she falls asleep on her own, in her bed. Doesn't make a difference though. It's so frustrating.

Hi Claire, nice to hear from you! I have been wondering how you are.

Ag, he goes to bed at 8pm and mostly wake up anytime between 1-2am until 4-5am. I have found if I put him to bed later, as in 9:30, then he sleeps till about 5/6am on occasion. Sometimes he still wakes. The problem is, if he does wake, he stays awake for two to three hours at a time.

Rice milk is great, but I don't think it fills him up.

Sion has slept through about three times in his whole life. I am also not opposed to giving him stilpaine every now and again if I really need to sleep. My dr. said it's fine. Especially when he is teething, which is seems to be doing all the time. How many teeth does Indigo have so far?

Hi Deja,

I wanted to ask if Sion is sleeping any better? Indigo is still not sleeping through and never ever has (not even one night) But she has always battled with cramps and even though she's been weaned for a while, she has Nido still. Was wondering if putting Sion on Rice milk helped?

He is looking so adorable!

Oh cool! Read up a bit before you go and remember to tell him the whole history. Ask all the questions you want. He's not exactly mr. Personality but he is very good with what he does. :-)

eeeeek, i just made an appointment!
10 January (no appointments before next year)

haha, now i'm nervous.

First consultation is R405 + R197 for the test.
I'm assuming that's the thing you were talking about holding on to? My homeopath never did any test. I did see sheets of paper talking about a Vega test, not sure if it's that, sounds like it could be, but she never mentioned doing anything like that.

aaaaah, i'm nervous - it's a lot of money, but i'm also hopeful he can help. And i'm scared cos i don't like new things lol.
Now to break the news to dh LoL

Maybe i should try and take him to see that doctor. My homeopath never picked up any things like that, however I did go to her for actual illnesses and not for prevention. But I did mention to her that the other dr had said i should really take logan there when he's well and i asked her why and if that was necessary but she said no, not really, because she's getting to know him anyway with him coming so often, so i just left it at that.

The remedies she gave me were for those specific illnesses he had, and i asked her how long they should take to work because that's why i never called back the first time, i thought it just needed longer. And she said they should work as fast as antibiotics - i should notice a definite improvement within 48 hours and if not then it's the wrong remedy.

So i think it can be used to treat immediate illnesses as well as long term problems.

I really would like to help build him up overall for the long run though because i hate him getting sick so often. I definitely do think antibiotics have their place, but i also think that many doctors these days overprescribe and jump to them far too quickly, and i'm too nervous to just not give them because he's already been in hospital 7 times, I'm always scared things get out of control if i don't do what the dr says. So if i can help him long term in some other way, to avoid all these illnesses (all originating from a simple snotty nose), then i really would like to.

I do know that homeopathy can work extremely well, but i also know it's a very fine art and the remedies are very person specific, so it's also fairly easy to get things wrong and then it doesn't work at all.

Also now would actually be the ideal time to go see that dr cos i start my leave on friday so would be available for any day/time appointment and then i also have him at home with me for a month before i go back to work and he goes back to creche. Maybe i should at least phone and find out how much it costs etc.

Oh, and on a good note, logan seems to like thyme tea - drinks it right out his sippy cup! So that makes my life nice and easy :D

I am all for honey and orange juice. In fact i have my own homemade hot toddy that i make up at the first sign of anything (rooibos, honey, lemon juice and orange juice). I mixed some up for logan once though and he spat it out. So i have no idea how to get honey into him. I've also tried giving it on a spoon and he clamped his mouth shut. Tried to give him some on toast for lunch today and he spat those out too. He's not a big fan of sweet things so i think that's why.

I think it will work out about R800 for him but it could be less.

Remember, homeopathic remedies work over a long period of time. That is why it is not always "effective" to give homeopathic remedies when a child is sick. It takes too long. The key is to re-align your child's body. To heal everything that has been broken down. So even though he might not be sick THIS INSTANT, there might be underlying issues brewing. As soon as he picks up a bug at school for instance, he gets sick. Because he can't fight it.

What I take my kids to the homeopath for is to see where there are "gaps" that can open them up for infections or bugs. I want to make sure their systems are functioning optimally. If an issue isn't resolved, it can get worse and lead to more issues. I also want their bodies to be able to heal itself.

So if you ask what can he do if the child is well when he goes, is he picks up what the underlying issues are. Has his immune system been compromised? For instance, when I went, I did not have Rotavirus any more. I was "well". He picked up my immune system was not functioning well, my vitality was down, the Rotavirus was still in my system and lots of other things. All those things was the CAUSE that I got the Rotavirus and almost died from dehydration. Nienke was also "well" but he picked up her tonsils was something (I can't remember it all), she had a post-nasal drip (I never knew about that!), a sensitivity in her nose and her immune system was compromised (due to antibiotics mainly). That was then remedied with drops I gave her over a period of two months.

That's why I said when I picked up a stomach bug Nienke brought home from school last week, I was only nauseous one day. It means my immune system already improved. I was able to fight it. My body is stronger. I have reserves and that is why I didn't get so sick.

If Logan's coughing, try honey and lime. According to babycentre :
How to use it
Give her 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of honey.
Some people mix their honey with hot water and add a squeeze of lemon, which provides a little vitamin C along with the soothing honey.
Because honey is a sticky sweet, it's important for you or your child to brush her teeth after she takes it, especially if you give it to her at bedtime.
Cautions
Don't give honey to a child before her first birthday. It can cause a rare and sometimes fatal illness called infant botulism.

One of my friends is a herbalist, so if I need advice, I just sms him. :-)

Homeopathy is not for everyone but I do think a good homeopath is key.
