Adoption...

Also thank you to all you kind ladies who have offered support & friendly but uselful advise! This is why I'm so addicted to this site.

As I mentioned before, it was a very had decision to come to and funny enough (or maybe not lol) it feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders.

I think its natural for us as woman to want to conceive, bear, born and hold a baby thats ours not just in body but also through the blood that runs trough their veins but I think its important to realize that there are other options available to those who for whatever reason are not able to do so.

For many years (four in total to be exact), I have thought that not falling pregnant/having miscarriages/etc has made me less of a woman and more of a disappointment as I could not fulfill the basic function of a woman. I have since come to the realization of how very wrong I have been all this time. Rearing a child that you did not conceive and carry does not make you any less of a woman, it makes you a special woman.

I truly hope that this post and all its information will make a difference to another mommy's life, as it has done to mine!

Sue - this is such a painful and wonderful journey you are considering taking. Painful because it has been a hard road to get here, and wonderful because I think the benefits so far outweigh the crosses you have had to bear.

There are a few bloggers who have adopted which might be good to take a look at.

sharonannevanwyk.wordpress.com/ - this is a private blog, so you need to request to be able to read it. But fabulous, and Sharon is a wealth of information.

My friend is busy going through the process at the moment, and is using Procare as well.

There are a few private social workers who are very good.

Depending on what you are looking for Child Welfare in Cape Town is also a good option to consider.

I think initially people are a bit scared off by the adoption process as it requires a process, time, and a lot of paperwork - but I think once you get your head around it, it is not as big a mountain as many people think it is.

Zakira looks like a fabulous source of information.

There are so many people on this forum who can offer you guidance, support and a huge "hooray" on this subject.

My eldest daughter and I volunteer at a home based orphanage in Pinelands , Cape Town who only takes in newborn babies - till about 18 months of all races who have been placed there for various reasons, through this we've met numerous parents who went through the adoption process via this home as they all wanted to adopt new born babies.
