question-circle First Fertomid Cycle, New Here

11 years 6 months ago #258536 by Morgan55
Hello ladies!!

How is everyone doing?

@Cynthia - How are you?! Miss talking to you.

@ TCS - :woohoo: so glad that things are going great for you and bean!

@Jay-Bee - All I can say is that fertomid really does work, the docs just have to get the dosage right. What they usually do is start you off on a smaller dose and if it doesn't work after 2 - 3 cycles, then they up the dose.

I would strongly advise that you get the follicle scan though. It clearly shows you the eggs so that you know that, yes, the fertomid did work and you have an excellent window in which to get the swimmers to meet the egg.

@Meisiekind - :woohoo: Sending lots of love and good luck for the IUI tomorrow. I know that this might sound cruel but I'm glad that you are keeping an open head with regarding the IUI failures. Believe me, it hurts REALLY badly when it doesn't work and I don't want anyone to feel that.

@ Anzel - WOW!! You see! Everything has it's time and place.

AFM - Currently on CD21 so AF due to arrive by next week. I actually feel ok about it since hubby and I haven't been ttc, we've just been chilling which is nice. Don't get me wrong, I still find myself wanting a baby very much but we're focussing on 'us'.

My one friend had her baby boy's christening to which we weren't invited because she didn't want to upset me. It was 2 days after I found out that the IUI didn't work and yeah, good thing we didn't go, I wouldn't have been able to handle it.

Last week Thursday we went to the homeopath - oh my goodness!! It was the most interesting 45 minute appointment I have EVER had!!

He says that my hormones aren't exactly what they're suppossed to be because I'm actually gluten intolerant and eating bread, cakes, cookies etc (with wheat, barley or rye in) is actually a factor. So, I'm eating all my protein (fish, meat, eggs) in the morning and afternoon together with dairy, rice and loads of salads. In the evening, it's veggies, veggies and more veggies.

I have to confess, I started eating 'right' last Friday and the change is unbelievable!! I'm no longer bloated, no longer tired each and every afternoon, I sleep very well and generally feel great!

He also said that my sleep cycle is out of sync. Even though I sleep 8 hours a night, my brain doesn't switch off which is why I'm always so tired.

hahahaha, he also said that we women have much better brains than men in that we can (if we really put our minds to it) do anything that we visualize. I know, a bit fruit cakey but hell ladies, if I can visualize getting myself pregnant then I'm all for it!!

Lots of love to all.

xx

Hi girls

I'm reading all the emails coming through from the forum, and I've decided to quickly pop in. I am currently busy with two UNISA assignments that is due by Friday - EEEEEKKK!! I'm finished my Post Grad Certificate in Education in November. I actually didn't plan to study again after completing my Honours in 2013, but when I got the job at the College, I was obliged to also get my teaching qualification. So yup - I have 7 months left before all my studies are complete.

God's timing is perfect, aint it? I mean, I could've been pregnant right now, and would not have had the power or courage to complete my studies. Now I have the opportunity to complete my studies before baby comes.

Talking about baby. You girls know that I've just finished my second round of Fertomid 100mg on Saturday (CD 7). I am currently on CD11, and have not had any watery/egg shell CM yet. I have creamy white CM, which I do not know what to make of. I woke up with bad backache, but only on the lower left side. Weird. So I'm not sure what to expect. The charting/temping thing doesn't seem to work - It just makes me more anxious if my cycle doesn't go according to their charts and the norm. I've found a ovulation calender for ladies on clomid, and according to that calender, my ovulation should occur between the 9th of April (Tomorrow) and the 14th (CD 12 to CD 17). This is roughly five days after I took the last pill.

@Jay-bee - Have a look at this link. I know you are on Fertomid. Maybe this will help. www.babymed.com/tools/clomid-ovulation-calculator

Thank You Jay Bee.

Long story short:

I have PCOS and was on diane 55 for about 13 years, from a teenager.
I stopped Diane and fell pregant in 2013 3 months later.
That pregnancy ended in a termination due to very serious heart condition.
3 months later fell pregnant naturally but was a blyted ovum and miscarried.
After that is where my struggle began. I started having irregular periods due to the stress of wanting a child... i took provera for 10 days to bring on a period 3 times after 45 days of waiting for a period. nothing came. This was from May to November.

my last cycle of provera was in november and 4 days later i had a period which was now december and on that cycle i started the fertomid.

My gynae told me that my subconscious was what was causing the periods to be non existant as there were no cysts etc.
Im not sure why he went straight to the 100mg. he told me it was a mild dose which i believed but soon read that 50mg was actually the mild one. Each time i took the provera he sent me for a blood test on CD22 to check if i ovulated which i didnt... perhaps the levels of that made him give me 100mg? Not sure...

If you take provera, the first day of your period is Cd1 and generally they still work with a 28 day cycle. I Had AF for 5 days and i started BD on CD 7. I bd'd CD7,9,12,14,16.

I noticed eggwhite CM on CD13.

i did a home test on CD23 because i felt weird. i had 1 positive and 1 negative test. on CD 24 (xmas eve) i couldnt handle the stress of it and went for a blood test and got a positive. I also was worried about waiting incase i had a few glasses of wine on christmas day and i was pregnant so just needed to know!

Jaybee i have all this info because i recorded daily on an app called Fertility Friend. Download it if you want. i was recording incase my Dr had questions for me and i needed to remb answers. this was just easier.

What i find very interesting is that the blood test i did was a qualitative test meaning they give you a positive or negative. they didnt want to do the quantitative without a dr's note . That gives you the HCG level reading. When i saw the Dr on CD27 he called for the result and the HCG level was 5mu at that time and he fails to understand how and why the lab gave me a positive because that level is soooooooo low... I think it was God intervening or my angel pie in heaven whom i lost..

I hope all this helps in some way... If you have any questions please ask..

Goodluck! Lots of love and baby dust

@ TCS84, congratulations!

You have upped my spirits and I am positive for this cycle although if we are not pregnant this cycle then I want to go for a ultrasound as maybe I need a higher dosage. If I may ask do you know why you were put on 100mg for the first round? Please can you tell me how long your cycles are and do you know when you ovulated?

Yes I do believe I need to relax more and breath :)

Ps, what a wonderful Christmas present to receive

@ Meisiekind, You got me thinking that maybe when I went for the ultrasound on CD13 and there were no follicles and the test might have been done to early.

My Gynae said that there is no way that the follicles will mature in time for ovulation, that is if ovulation occurs and my Progesterone level was low the previous cycle. But with that said I would've liked to have a ultrasound done in the next week as that is when I am suppose to ovulate after my first course of Fertomid. Maybe I should just wait this cycle and if we are not pregnant I will book all the scans so that I can be monitored and give myself piece of mind.

Good luck with your IUI today, all will be fine! You must be so excited!!

Hi Jay-Bee01,

I went on Fertomid last year. I took first and only round in december 2014. from CD3 for 5 days i think. it was 100mg.
i didnt have any scans etc done , just a progesterone test at Cd21 or CD22..

i found out i was pregnant on christmas eve... currently 18 weeks.

Dont get me wrong, it wasnt an easy journey for me.. and boy did i have a journey...

Just keep the faith and most importantly try not to stress. i know how hard it is but just try to relax... i downloaded a few meditaion apps and used them every night. worked very well to calm me down etc.

Goodluck!! praying this round is successful for you and the many others that are trying to conceive!!

Hi ladies

Hope you are all doing well. :)

Haven't been posting much lately - in part because I'm quite busy but also didn't feel like talking too much TTC.

@Cynthia, glad to see you're back on the horse. :) Hope you have some good news soon.

@TCS84, the tiredness is normal, however I'm sure you'll have the energy of the 2nd trimester soon. :)

@Jay-bee, welcome to the Fertomid club. :silly: My experience thus far has been everything but average text book cases. It may be that the avg person ovulate 5 - 9 days after taking the last pill, but it has always been longer for me. Particularly the cycle I'm in now (some more on that below). Normally I only ovulate about 11 days after the last pill, although this cycle it will be 15 days (CD22). Even my FS is scratching his head a bit.

The problem I have with a CD13 scan and Progesterone test on CD21, is that it assumes you are a text book case. This cycle I had scans on CD8, 10, 13, 15, 18 and 21 (we're trying to do IUI). Only on CD18 did we see the first signs of a developing follicle. It was 15mm. By the next scan (today) it was 22mm and ready to go. So had we given up on CD13 we would have missed it completely.

That said, my FS did say that even though we have 1 follicle to work with this cycle, if its BFN then we'll change the meds next cycle since I'm already on 100mg and its taking too long to get to ovulation.

You didn't mention if your gynae is an FS (fertility specialist). If you are concerned about wasting too much time (and depending on how much you are willing to pay to get there sooner) then I'd recommend rather going to an FS. Normally it would be around 3 - 4 scans per monitored cycle at R500 each, so its not exactly cheap, but within 2 cycles you can have a much clearer picture on your situation. Hope you get the answers you are looking for soon.

AFM, doing our first IUI tomorrow at 12h00. Feeling quite excited, but also realistic in reminding myself that statiscally you're more likely to fail than succeed. Actually falling preggies is still such a miracle. However I firmly believe that if its God's right time for us to get a BFP, then it will happen. If not, then I'll accept that He had something better in mind. :)

Have a nice short week ladies!!
