I'm no expert on that, but what my biochemical knowledge tell me is that is not possible to use a OPK as a HPT.
OPKs detect a surge in the LH hormone. Now LH and FSH are anterior pituitary hormones that are under the control of hypothalamic hormone (GnRH). LH is necessary to maintain the corpus luteum.
HPTs detect human gonadotropin hormone that is only present (and starts being produced after implantation) when you are pregnant.
If you are not pregnant, then in the last 2 days before menstruation a large secretion of progesterone and estrogen from the corpus luteum inhibits the secretion of FSH and LH from the anterior pituitary by a negative feedback loop. The corpus luteum begins to disintegrate and all of this leads to menstrual bleeding.
So, maybeeeeee and this is a BIG maybeeeeeee, an OPK will still detect the presence of LH when you are pregnant (i.e. no negative feedback), but if one goes with that, you will have a + OPK from ovulation right through your lutheal phase and then obviously after AF was due - since the secretion of LH only stops 2 days before menstruation. So, there is a chance it will work, but I would rather then still wait for AF to be late and trust the HPT.
These tests are different and made for different hormones. And since there is only the "2-day window" you will maybe on the day or so before AF is due still pick up a + OPK because the LH might not be completely out of your system. (All obviously dfepends on the amount of hormone circulating).
Just my opinion, different tests for different reasons

.
Taryn, don't be depressed, remember Vix tested and got a BFN and then 2 days later it was positive.
