We had to test LG as we had already tried everything, then from 6months untill 9months she was not gaining weight at all. was just stagnant at 6.5kg, so we had to find the problem.

Pinkmommy luckily she doesnt have a sweet-tooth, she prefer salty things to sweets. so I just have Flings handy for her whenever we are at parties.
LOL the Dr is already part of your circle of friends as you see her so often!

Hi all,

I haven't had my kids testes yet. At this age tests are not really very accurate so I rather do the food dairy thing.

I am allergic to gluten (actually have celiacs disease not allergy) so I am keeping my kids off gluten till 2 years to try and give them a chance to develop a healthy digestion system before introducing gluten, apparently this increases their chance of not developing celiacs disease.

As a baby I also had an allergy or intolerance to the cassein protein in cows milk so I expected that my kids might be sensitive to it.

With my son we found that he had bad reactions to cows milk formulas, even the HA's, so we tried soy with the same results. Then I tried goats milk and it worked. Then winter came and I struggled to get goats milk so I used rice milk. Then after about 6 months on rice milk, he developed excema witch I now suspect is because of the rice milk either containing gluten or him developing an allergy to rice as both these substances can cause the reaction he had.

With my LG, I tried cows milk formula (NAN HA) and it didn't work, then I went straight onto goats milk as I didn't want to go through the soy thing again. And I've stuck to it through the winter now, can't wait for summer and cheaper milk!!

So far neither of them has problems with eggs or fish (i haven't really tried fish on my LG) and my LB has outgrown the cows milk problem. He is 2 years old now and drink rooibos tea with cows milk instead of formula.

If I have more kids, I'm not even going to try anything else before 1 year, just breastfeed till I have to stop for what ever reason and then goatsmilk till 2 years...

Woolies normally (in summer) stocks fresh goatsmilk at about R18 per litre. Goatsmilk drinking yoghurt and normal yoghurt.

My fruit and veg (Fourways) and my Spar (Broadacres) stocks frozen goatsmilk at R12 per litre and the yoghurt, and the yoghurt is reasonably priced compared to Woolies. I think for a medium tub it was about R4 more than normal cows milk yoghurt, or it was the same price as a big tub of cows milk yoghurt I can't remember.
Haven't seen cheese there yet.

Checkers sells goats milk cheese, my kids don't like it and i think it tastes revolting so we don't buy there.

I'll be taking Iz for her 12 month check up next week, we'll see what doc says then. We've visited him so often the past few months we might as well invite him to her bday party!

Iz loves egg and fish, so that's 2 things she's not cramping on. Thank goodness! Don't you sometimes wish you could also just whip out some yoghurt and whala....lunch is served! How do you handle sweets? Other kids eating chocolate and ice cream in front of your LO? We as a family cut out all ice cream and chocolate and sweets. And I don't give her sweets even non dairy. Funny I get lots of people frown upon it.

We have a blood disorder in our family which runs through gender. If i would've had a boy, he would inherit it, but hells bells, Iz got so much allergies and reflux, and grommets. That sometimes I think we might as well try for a boy. Would be a no brainer! Hehehe.

Iz still got silent Reflux also, so I to this day have to mix all her milk with Nerstargel.

What is Pepticate?

Ooh my Meags that's expensive, atleast medical aid will refund you. Discovery said they'll pay for the milk from our MSA! Which is almost exhausted, so ya it has to come out of our pocket
I used to buy Pepticate from Dischem (R145/tin which last 4-5days) now the Company delivers it directly to my house @ R125/tin.

Pinksmommy our LGs Paed decided we should do allergy test @ 9months, as we had already tried the diary of what she ate & eliminating what was giving her problems without any luck. It was heartbreaking when they had to get that much blood from het tiny veins  & the tests cost around R3 000!
She's my first child & now I'm scared to have more LOL "what if they all have this problems" plays alot in my mind!

regarding the Chelsea bun, could it not be milk/butter/egg in it that gave her cramps?

all her major allergies are: egg, dairy, fish, nuts, soya. wheat she can tolerate it

Hasie, I went to Pick 'n Pay and asked them for it. Almost had heart failure when I saw the price. Cause Iz only wants milk, she refuses to drink anything else, thus we still on almost 5 bottles formula per day. With Alpi @ R110 which will last me all of 4 days with their recommended dilution I'm going to be broke. :pinch:

But then I talked to DH and we decided to try force her to start drinking water etc and reduce her milk. I've also had a friend contact the Alpi supplier directly few years back and they bought it cheaper directly from there. (Think she said they are in CT)

I bought a tin of Lactogen 3 yesterday, cause I saw it's also broken down. You see, Iz drinks Novalac AC, which still is a cow's milk based formula. Only the lactose has been broken down, but yesterday I googled all it and saw that the proteins has also been re-formulated (total A-HA moment for me) cause this was mind boggling howcome Iz could drink this formula but cramp badbly on any and everything else. Well I sat comparing the ingredient of the Lactogen 3 and Novalac AC, most the same, but now not so sure I'm even going to bother trying it knowing about the proteins.

I'll definately take a stroll down to Fruit & Veg this morning. ;) Give the poor woolies guys a breether as I have been harrassing them every 2nd day.

Question: Have all of your LO's been tested? I went to my paed, but he didn't want to test Iz as yet cause he said their intollerances change still. She is too young to test. That was at 9 months. We should just keep a food diary of what makes her cramp. Mmmm let me see, EVERYTHING! She cramped badly the other day on a small piece of chelsea bun, and no, she didn't get any icing sugar. I'm to scared to give her bread now.

Thank goodness for this thread, I am clueless at this...3 kids and this is the first one with all this stuff!

Patty I feel you...The Elecare (Neocate) here is going to cost us approximately R350 PER CAN that lasts for 3 DAYS!!!!!!!! I kid you not!!!!!!!!!!!!
So that is going to cost us R3500 per month! Thank God our medical aid will refund us. But the problem is that we have to pay cash and wait about 2 months or so before we get the money back
