I did NOT read all the replies, so if my answer spesifically offend anybody - it is not on purpose, okay!

We pierced Micayla's ears when she was still a baby at 8 months. Yes it was so cute and I loved it! However at about age 2 her ears started swearing and I took the studs out to let them heal faster. When her ears were healed, I got her new earrings (the ring type, think they're called sleepers) but she was too scared to have them in her ears. I am wearing them now :-) Micayla only just now starting wearing earings again, dh makes them for her and me.

Danette's ears we never got pierced but she saw how it is done, and she refuses :-)

Just last night DH said he wants to pierce Jaqi's ears when she is about 6 months old. We'll see..... I would like to, and maybe Danette will be happy to have hers pierced then too.

Either way I don't mind. For me it is not really an issue.

I asked to have my ears pierced when I was six and I still remember the drama of the cleaning and turning...
And I think if she's asked for it it will teach her a bit about consequences. And that as a lady (urg) you sometimes need to make sacrifices for beauty.

Mhhh

It's so true, girls look very cute with earings, but for me, i'll leave it to her to decide.
A friend of mine called me a "coconut" for that.

My ears were pierced at an early age, think at 6 yrs, for the odd reason that it would help with watery eyes i had   .

i hate the marks on my ears, and i admire people who have not pierced their ears.

Say your little girl asks at age 5 for it, does she REALLY understand the concept of it being permanent? At age 12 she could understand maybe then, and be upset by her choice at age 5. I don't know if by telling her at age 12 that I gave her choice at 5 or 8 years old, and it was her choice, so if she is unhappy about it know, she has only herself to blame?
I guess what I am saying is: if I decided for her (to get it), she might be angry later or if she decides herself when to get it (but doesn't REALLY understand what she is doing) she could still later resent her choice at a later age??
mmmm....tough one

LoriF I agree with you completely regarding circumcision. It is a personal choice, but we chose to leave Dylan in tact. If he wants his foreskin gone we will pay to have it done.

Agree totally on this, My Hubby and I decided and spoke to the Pead and he said and i quote 'If it wasn't meant to be there, it wouldn't have been" So we left it and Hubby will make sure Reece gets the Low down on how to look after it and he can decide himself if it stays or goes. At the same time though, I do have a friend who's son at around the age of 6 or 7 had to have it removed because for some odd medically explainable reason it had gotten too tight and was causing trouble for him..... But I am sure that is the exception.

I don't have any girls, but my "10 cents" worth is that when they are old enough to pay for it themselves and sign their own indemnity forms, they are welcome to pierce whatever they want B)

before that it is no
