MissesMom, For the daytime a good potty traing nappy in my opinion is a BioBaba. That's what I am using for my son. They also make incredible swimming nappies, they have a special "Large" nappy which is great for people only starting to cloth with a toddler or for Potty traiing or for Swimming lessons. I must say I actually really love how easy it is for the Potty training.

For Night time I would say definately the econobum.

Now I know you have 2 girls but the person you are asking for might want to consider Single soaker pants from the Earthbabies range. There is a lovely "Potty training kit with special magnets as well as 5 pants. This is a perfect for the job as the Single soaker really works. Of course girls can use these too so it's something to remember.

I have 2 kids on nappies. I paid R800 for the big Econobum set, 6 covers, 24 nappies. I am using this system for both my kids and have been using only that for the past 3 months now and its already paid for themselves...

For 2 kids, I would already have spent alot more on nappies while using the econobum. Take it as at least 3 packs of nappies a month, per child. At R100 per pack (yes I know its more... making a point.) for 3 months: R100 x 3 x 3 x 2 = R1800 In 3 months.

I have been using cloth since the birth of my first baby. And I have bought various nappies, made some myself and played around with it a lot. So I didn't spend only R800 on cloth nappies in the past 2 years, but I have spent a lot less on nappies than I would have spent if I where using disposables.

My LG used her brother's 2nd hand nappies from birth. So double saving there.

I would say all in all, I've propably spent around R3000 on nappies over the past 2 years, that is since my son was born. He is two years old now and my LG is 8 months.

If I used disposables i would have spent at least:

R100 x 3 packs x 12 months x 2 = R 7200 for my LB
R100 x 3 packs x 8 months = R 2400 for my LG
All togehter = R 9600 and thats if I bought riduculously cheap nappies...

Also want to swop over to cloth napies.. is it really cost effective in the end?

Nels, yes i have used Bambino Mio nappies. According to me they are the best of the best, also the most expensive. The problem with them is (the price...) that the waterproofs work with velcro, I used to see this as an advantage, but am so sick of velcro now, I never want to see another velcro nappy. The velcro gets full of fluff etc and is damn hard to keep neat if you wash as often as you do. If you put it in the tumble drier (by accident!) the velcro curls up and is basically useless. Plus you have to buy bigger proofs for every stage and bigger nappies for every 2nd stage.

The Econobum uses poppers and you use the same proof for all the stages as it can be adjusted to fit the baby at any age.

I think the Econobum is to big and bulky for a new born, I would still use the Bambino Mio nappies for new born, up to 3 / 4 months, then change over to Econobum.

But your son is big already, so I would go for the Econobum straight away, will work out MUCH cheaper than the Bambino Mio.

You might have to use a double nappy at night.

MissesMom: Earthbabies single soakers. They can hold 1 pee, the second pee will make the clothes wet. So I would use that during the day for actual potty training, they are like underpants, just padded so that a accident doesn't leak down the legs but they still feel wet. Mother nature also makes potty training pants, but they actually makes the clothes wet after the first pee, so not as good as the earthbabies.

At night I would use a double Econobum, its the only nappy that can keep my 2yo dry over night (not even disposables keeps him dry).

Ladies, which nappies would you suggest for potty training a little boy? How long would they last during the day? What would be best for night time?
