Hi Dinky

I am too in the process of investigating BLW with my 3rd child. She is 6 months old. We started solids early because of reflux and I chose to wait until she was 6 months to start the BLW. I am about to try and get hold of a good resource I was told about and when I have the name I will post it here and perhaps you can get hold of it for yourself. Maybe there are some more moms here on Moomie who are also interested in BLW and we can get this thread up and running again.

Take care

Hi All,

I am going to admit that I haven't read the whole thread and the honest reason is because I should have started workin 50 minutes ago and I'm still trawling Moomie

My story quickly: My little girl is 4 months old, she has reflux - not severe but she is on Nexium for it - we had a check-up at the pead on Tuesday and he said we were free to start solids as soon as we are ready. He suggested the conventional route of cereal, yellow veg, fruit etc. and said that once she was feeding nicely we could try stop the meds. So, I got myself ready to go and buy bowls and spoons and bibs and cereal and then I saw a short article on BLW in Living & Loving which got me wondering if this is not a better route for us to go. I mentioned it to DH last night and he seems keen to investigate further.

So, my quetion is - where do I start? Is 4 months too young even though she manages to get toys into her mouth for a good chew? Should I rather wait until 6 months? Any advice, tips, guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share that yesterday I had a near choking incident with B (now just over 3 years old) and again I saw the benefits of going the exclusive BLW route with her over 30 months ago.

She was eating a sweet, 'n regular chewy sweet, not a hard boiled one and talking non-stop, next thing I could hear that sweet going horribly wrong - you could hear the gulp of/for air just as it got lodged. Now I'm not one to freak out but had images running through my mind of what to do next. Looking back now, she instinctively knew what to do, she bent her head forward over her knees, she didn't freak out, just calmly got it out - of course at second 5 - 10 I slapped her on the back twice but by that time she had already gotten it free.

As she looked up her eyes were full of tears from the strain and the sputtering directly afterwards, but it could have ended so differently if she had not been given the opportunity to learn through blw.

I can't wait to start this journey again with number 2.

Hi ladies

A few months back I was posting on this thread about my Son Reece who was at that stage still eating reasonably well but was already starting with his "Food issues" He is goin on three and still eats so badly. I am really at my wits end with him. Sorry for moaning here and just throwing this in there but I just needed to whine I geuss.

This is what he eats:
Scrambled eggs
Bovril Toast
Peanut Butter toast
Yoghurt
Fishfingers
McCains ovenbake fries
Oatees
Weetbix
Ice-Cream
KFC Pops

So this is it, this is what his diet comprises out of and I don't feel it's nutritious enough. I can do what I like he refuses to eat anything else at all. This being said the school says he eats his lunch everyday and sometimes goes for seconds, I just wish I could see it at home and on weekends because on weekends he hardly eats anything except toast & egg.

I can see he eats veg at school because it comes out in his nappy sometimes (Sorry TMI) but I just wish I could see it for myself. I don't know what is going to happen from next month because he is going to be starting to stay at home with our Nanny from the begining of December.

Any advice you ladies have is appreciated.

James hate most veg:( He used to eat everything, but I've found now I have to disguise vegetables in soups, stews etc..., so I guess he is like his grandpa. Other than that he is like a human vacuum cleaner. He eats everything in site and is such a champ with the spoon. My mom keeps commenting about how well he uses his cutlery. The added bonus is that when he is finished eating he actually hands me his plate instead of throwing it on the floor.
Having dogs is definitly helpful for when food drops to the floor.
James favourite breakfast is oats. He eats a portion as big of mine and shovels it in like there is no tomorrow (I add a little honey to sweeten) Now that its summer he gets meusli and I've gotten very adventurous. I make my own with oats, wheatgerm, omega seed mix, crushed almonds raisens and serve with plain greek yoghurt.

I keep loads of fruit for snacks in the bottom shelf of the fridge which James helps himself to throughout the day. I just have to limit the amount of blueberries, because apparently he doesnt know how to ration himslef with those (he once ate an entire punnet which gave him a very upset tummy, blueberry vomit and nappies are not fun!!!)

He is still a lightweight, but after not gaining any weight from about 9 months, in the last 2 months he has gained a whopping kilo and a half. I guess its true about growing in fits and starts...He how is 9.8kgs and at 18 and a half month fits into 6-12month clothing still:)

We're still doing well. Skye is now 12 months old, not picky at all, except she still loves her breastmilk and will take that over food any day. Yesterday she ate 2 bites of banana, one tiny cube of cheese and a piece of spaghetti! I'm not worried though as she is growing beautifully and still nice and chubby and happy. I serve her whatever we eat and if he eats great it not, oh well.

Hi, no news is always good news... but so nice to hear from everyone! Guess we are all busy busy busy.

Our side, having 2 kids under 2 years is no joke! But Sarah is 2 yrs 2 months now (2 going on 22 I say), so its loads of fun! Nathan is a year old in a month, cant believe it.

Both are LOVING there food. My friends say they have never seen 2 kids eat like mine do. Quite proud of myself, they have never had purity (I have nothing against purity, dont get me wrong), but we've managed the BLW perfectly! And quite by accident it all started when Sarah wouldnt let a spoon near her mouth!

I can only feed Nathan his yogurt or oats with a spoon, and I'm not sure for how much longer either. Sarah eats everything by herself, LOVES anything that needs a spoon, yogurt (which she called baby food and refused to eat it until a month ago), rice, soup, she is doing really well.

Nathan just copies his sister! I cant believe how much more fluids he drinks, and so well. I think he copies his bigger sister.

I must confess, I choose our meals regarding degree of messy-ness. Bronz, a high chair helps a lot, I only got it when Sarah was 8 months old, but there is still mess everywhere! Like your suggestion for "rent a dog" :-)

They really eat anything, Sarah just picks out any sort of "bean" - I think if I even candy-coated it she would like the candy off and find the bean! LOL. And I must confess, 2nd time round, I avent waited for certain foods with Nathan. He gets eggs (the easiest thing ever, and sometimes/most times, I do them in the microwave (slap on my wrists)), even a bit of peanut butter. Oh well, like us, our kids will survive!

Good luck with the exams and happy studying :-)
