file Feeding your baby BLW style

Sounds like it is going very well 2km :-)

I am going book shopping this weekend for sure!

I am so glad I have a nanny to do the washing - YAY! But the topless idea is fantastic.

I have loaded a pic of her feeding herself porridge - know it doesn't strictly count but it's still cute

Hi ladies

Another very successful meal last night for Mila. First a plate of Chile Con carne (very very mild with pasta) and then a soft peach in quarters and she just absolutely loved it except there were a few sour spots and she pulled such faces.

I just recieved the book I am lending and I have started to read it. It's already enthrawling me and I have only had it for half an hour.

When I was partially BLW with my son what I did was to get a big plastic tablecloth and put that under the feeding chair, worked like a charm. Also have decided that Mila will be eating Topless because I don't see the point of making extra washing for myself. (I already have nappies to wash, don't need more clothes to add to it)

Here is a photo of her enjoying her supper. DInky, post us a picture of your little one when she eats some melon again.

Hi Ladies,

Marijke I hear you RE: the conventional mags.

Like I mentioned I am sort of letting her self-feed pureed veg and I have given her melon slices twice which she loves and gums pieces off.

I am definitely going to look for the book soon. Will also try read the thread from the beginning when I have some time.

Luckily we have two Jack Russells who already help me with the mush she spreads all over the place at the moment.

Congrats on the first meal 2km - the pics are gorgeous!

I thought I was going to be one of those fussy moms, always wiping and cleaning but I have actually surprised myself being quite relaxed about letting her explore and experience.

I did read a tip that instead of using bibs put a too big t-shirt over their clothes to protect everything. Thought it was a good idea!

Morning Dinky & Marjike

So on the weekend I gave mil a Whole pear which she loved and also some blueberries, she really enjoyed those. Last night she had her very first official BLW meal of our food and she so enjoyed it. It was a joy to watch raly, she had such enthusiam and really enjoyed it. The food was quite soft and so she managed it well and we had no gagging which was a relief to me. I think as a 3rd time Mum even though I didn't think so the other two times round I probably unknowlingly did a whole lot more BLW than I thought because things like handing my 6 month old an apple or pear to chew on or a piece of toast was pretty normal but it's just a perception I have and now i am actually putting a name to it an doing it full on.

Dinky, I think it's great you are letting your little one experience with her hands to start and this will be a great grounding for when you start the actual BLW.

Oh and if you go back to the first few pages, most of the entries are my 'diary' of how we started with photos and so on and there are more scattered throughout the thread - there are even a few posts which will be how people will perceive what you are doing, so you can prepare for the questions people who don't know have ;)

Hi 2km,

Let's hope we can revive this thread. Sounds like we are in a similar position. We also started solids early due to reflux although it doesn't seem to have helped :S

At the moment I am still doing rice cereal and pureed veg but I let her take some puree in her hands and feed herself.

I was also considering starting BLW properly at 6 months which will be in Jan so luckily I still have some time to research.

Hi Dinky

I'm so sorry for not replying quicker, but have an almost 3 week old baby in my arms constantly (or on the breast) and I'm not yet as skilled in feeding while moving around or even typing!

First off, articles in magazines are the reason I've stopped buying baby related magazines, because it's always a 2 or 3 page spread on the 'conventional' thing to do and then a 2 sentence mention of any other thing you can try. Baba & Kleuter once said after their 2 sentence mention of BLW "we do not endorse this type of feeding" - sure, we can all guess why. So I really hope the article you saw was more informative!

My gut tells me 4 months might still be too young, but then again, I know one of the ladies on this thread had a 4 month old eating an apple or a pear, he was just that advanced and ready and age is only a number. The only way to know if she is ready is to give her the opportunity to see with food.

Again, as I've said before, if you can get your hands on the book, please do. It's been almost 3 years since mine started blw so I'm a bit rusted. I started B off with "bad mommy moment" cookies, marie biscuits I think it was, just to see if she can hold it and take it to her mouth and 'chew' pieces off, well in reality she drooled all over it and it got soft and she gummed pieces off (only got her first tooth at 9 months or something like that) Her first real meal with us was butternut, potatoes and chicken at 5.5months and think soft but not turn into instant mush, that can be cut into strips a little bigger than their fist so when they are the sucker in their hand there is a piece sticking out the top and or bottom.

It's messy, so get a dog! No seriously, get something to put under her chair, and always let her wear clothes you don't worry about, I know B loved plums and those stain! Nice ripe plums are the bomb. Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll hopefully get back to you quicker! And pretty soon I'll be doing it all again! Yay, can't wait.
