Could not agree with you more SMA!!

Fear + labour = complications Not saying that all complications are caused by the mom's fear, but that fearing labour will certainly complicate things!

In HypnoBirthing, we specifically focus on eliminating fear from the labour process.

Hi ladies

Zee it is an old wives tale, Hasie explained it perfectly. Don't let it get to your head, cos really if every woman would shut down their heads we would all birth naturally just fine :P . Really all these million things we fear about a natural process mess up the process. I didn't know my baby was going to be a 3.9 kg, so I wasn't scared to push, so I wasn't tense worrying about tearing, and bam she came out so well, hardly tore, no horrible ring of fire. With my son, I was told I have small feet I'm too thin, my pelvis is small, and guess what, I fearfully pushed 4 times or so, told to stop, didn't fight cos of all these things I allowed to take root...and had an unnecessary (in my case) ceaser for a baby with a smaller head circumference, smaller weight, flip even shorter than Tamina. So, medical reasons aside, fear is the biggest hindrane to normal labour.

I know some vbac moms had to still work hard while labouring, but when I reviewed my labour I felt sooo stupid for being scared of something that went so well, I was like why the hell did I waste so much time worrying about something my body knew well? Don't get me wrong, educate yourself, prepare, but try to supress the fear and worry. You will not avoid a c-section cos your feared and worried enough to have a successful NVD... Gosh now if I could have told myself all this while I was a candidate  :silly:

Latest pic of Tamina...5 weeks tomorrow.....

Hi Zee13,

Shoe size is in my opinion an old wife's tale. There are many many ladies who births naturally and have a size 2 foot. It is very unlikely for your body to produce a baby that is to big for your body to birth unless you have gestational diabetes.

Please don't get worried about this and see a midwife for a second opinion if your gynie gets funny about your perceived ability to birth a baby.

With regards to the engagement question, ditto what Spiral said.

The definition of engaged is when 2/5th's of the baby's head is sitting in the pelvic bowl.
It is usually unlikely to disengage once it is this deep into the pelvis...in preparation for labour.

Ladies, this might be a stupid question but i'll ask it anyway.

What does it mean to have the baby engaged? is it the same as the head down position?

Hi Widget,

My size is 3/4 so what she said scared me because she seemed surprised that i'm even considering natural birth. My gynae doesn't seem worried though so since she's my primary care giver i won't be worried unless she tells me to be...

Was just interested if its a known fact out there
