Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd give an update and share all the positivity!
Had my 31wk check-up this week (we live 180km from gynae, so we stretch times between visits). Renier was breech last at 27wks, but has turned head down and regardless I am still just as comfortable although the kicks often hurt! Apart from my growing belly I don't have ANY pregnancy simptoms and haven't had any since morning sickness stopped! Docter estimated him @ 1.8kg, but he said he's pretty sure that's an over estimate. Didn't tell him last time that I'm doing hypnobirthing, and when I told him now his responce was "Oh, so it'll be a painfree birth then!". I said that I'll certainly hope for it to go that well as the epidural made a muscle spasm in my back last time. (For anyone who can't remember or who hasn't read that far back, I had an emergency c-section last time after induction failed at 40wks. Also had a terrible pregnancy and the wound got infected afterwards and landed me back in hospital for 3 days. I had the same gynae then and my theory is that the shock of the pregnancy and the stress coming with it was all too much for my system. Not blaming anyone for it turning out like that! I feared having a c-section back then anyway and I think with things ending up like it did it was all too much for me!)
Seeing our GP @ 34wks and then I'll see my gynae again @ 37wks when he'll decide if I'll get a trial of labor. I'm sure everything will be fine! Renier is lying posterior, but he said that it'll depend on if he drops down to engage for me to have a trail of labor or not. He said 80% of women still have normal birth when baby is lying posterior.
I went to take a tour of the labor ward to refresh my memory and had the most lovely chat with one of the nurses! She said that things changed a bit since I had my girl in Jan '10 and that they allow skin on skin contact and nursing the baby immediately even if you have a c-section and they don't take baby away like they used to. Dad stays with them until you come out of theater. If you have a normal birth, then baby also stays with baby until you washed up. After leaving the hospital I really felt so positive and I know everything will be fine this time! I'm as prepared as I possibly can be for my VBAC and I'm assured that my gynae and the nursing staff will be on my side for me to have this experience be a good one! My husband was also not keen on me trying to have a normal birth, but after I did the hypnobirthing course and he's seen me being confident and fearless he hasn't objected either.
I'm with Dr Potgieter at St Georges Hospital in PE.
