Maureen , I feel your pain. I’m in sort of the same situation with the cleaning lady.
We have moved into a rental house for time being, so most of our stuff is still in boxes. Well, she helped herself with a radio for her room. We gave her an old phone of my husband, and when it was time for him to upgraded to a new phone, his old phone was on his bedside table, because it went dead just after he got his new phone. She asked me what is wrong with the phone, and I told her it is broken. The next day when he arrived at home, she was waiting for him, with the cell phone in her hand. She asked him if she can have the phone, after we gave her his other phone about a month before. She also told him that she can get the phone fixed for him for R250.00. He told her, NO, he still needs to transfer the numbers and data from that phone to the new one. And if he wants it fixed, he will do it himself. And he took the phone from her. About two weeks later, my husband asked me if I have seen the phone and I went to her, to ask her, and she told me yes, my husband gave it to her. She even took the charger out of his drawer. I mean really. And the thing is, my husband works for Telkom, and that was a company phone, now he must pay R150, because he cannot give the phone back. And we realized that the broken phone that Emma played with is also gone.
Two weeks ago, we found some caramel popcorn on the floor. I looked into the cupboard and saw that the holder with the popcorn in is half, and we didn’t eat is, and she is alone at the house the whole day. I asked her, but she said she didn’t eat it. So I don’t have proof. And her cleaning is up to S… But hey, that’s my problem, and I’m too soft to let her go.
I wish people can just leave the stuff that is not theirs alone. I asked a friend from work to look after our house during the holiday. And my child’s CD player disappeared from the box that it was in. As well of some of my “Lock & Locks”, and I know she took it, because she brings her food in it to work. Luckily I got my DVD’s back, but I had to ask her for about two weeks every week to bring it. And the sad part is, we’re working for a church. She borrowed a jacket from the one lady, and now she doesn’t bring it back. She will rather wear it to work. I hate stealing. Please man, I work very hard for my stuff, leave my stuff alone.
But JA, that’s enough, complaining for one day. Maybe we must start a Club in “how to be a B****”
