Mine are R580 an appointment and she has a seperate person come to her offices to give you the 12 & 20 week scans... those apps R430 and they charge the scan straight to your med aid ( cant remember how much that was, but less then R1000)

so they only charge the two scans...

Hi Ladies,

Im not back at work yet - go back on Friday (I know strange - but i need a slow introduction of 2.5 wks of not doing much). Our last gyanea visit went quite well - detailed scan of Wawa and 100% confirmation that it's a boy. Swab results came back positive for nycoplasma so I was on antibiotics for 6 days -hope that zapped the nasties. Have the 20wk (although I'll be closer to 22wks) scan with Prof Nicolau at Morningside on the 22nd of Jan - nervous but looking forward to it. I was 19wks and a couple of days when I experienced pPROM and gave birth to my angel in May last year - so it's definately a nervous period right now in the pregnancy.

Just a quick question ladies - how much do you pay on average visits to the gynae and do they charge you for every scan. My medical aid only covers 2 scans and I've already exhausted those, so im paying out of pocket each time and we're only half way. Every visit is about R850, and with Prof Nicolau its abotu R1600 (but its the last one at 20wks thank God)

Hi Ladies,

wow, December holidays came and went far too quickly! we had a lovely Holiday though, the morning sickness passed just in time to pig out over Christmas and new year :)

want2bmommy, congrats, I have followed your story on the ttc thread, so happy for you, wishing you a wonderful remainder of your pregnancy. My Gynae did a full assessment at our last scan - 21 weeks, it was very reassuring. checked fingers, toes, heart, blood flow in the cord, mouth ( cleft lip etc) kidneys, liver etc and said all is perfect, chances of any birth defects now are very slim

Kerry, I am also back as work today, mostly admin- Urg ! its tough when you work from home to get the motivation to get stuck in, but no paid maternity leave this time, so need to build up some extra funds :) You must be missing your little girl like crazy!

Charmi, congrats again on a little girl, we are also very excited for another little girl :)

AFM- the genesis visit went well, had my first appointment with my midwife, who I liked, what a difference, she spent an hour with us, answering questions, checking baby's heartbeat, urine, measuring me etc, talking about healthy eating and so on and only charged R300, compared to our gynae visits which are only 10 - 15 minutes and cost R800

We have a check up with a genesis Gynae on Thursday and hopefully she will sign off on a natural birth at genesis ( sure she will as my gynea said its highly unlikely I wont have a natural birth, since all is going so well) and then we will stop seeing my current gynae and only see the midwife and prepare for a genesis birth.

Read my hypnobirthing book of the holidays and starting to feel exited, especially now that I am past the half way mark

Have a good week xx

Welcome want2bmommy! :-)

I also went for a foetal assessment scan at 13 weeks with my first and it was astounding to see just how fast they develop... with my second i just went with the slightly cheaper option of my gyneas foetal assessment lady and it was still nice but much shorter and less in depth than with my first.

My next scan for this pregnancy is also a foetal scan, the 20-23 week one... doing it on the 24th of this month at 22 weeks.. and we will find out the gender then too :-)

Hi everyone,

I can finally post something here :) After two missed MC's last year, I am 16 weeks pregnant :) My due date is 18 June 2013, can't wait!

Just wanted to know if anyone here is with Dr Sevenster at Unitas? Just have a few questions??

And then I also want to tell you about my awesome experience at the Fetal Assessment Centre. My gynae is not very talkative and my 12 week scan was very basic. Therefore I decided to go to the Fetal Assessment clinic at Pta East Hospital. The doctor there is very nice, the scan was almost 30 minutes and very detailed, I could hear the heartbeat for the first time and we could even see the little fingers, kidneys and brain developing. He also calculated our risk for DS and we could even see the gender (only 70% certain). This appointment really gave me assurance that everything is ok :) So if you have an extra R1100 to spare, I would really recommend them!

I am going for my next scan at my gynae this week so hopefully he can confirm the gender so that we can start shopping :cheer:

I am Back :-) Great news Charmi!

Had an awesome christmas break, actually quite sad to have had to go back to work today, plus to get back to mountains of things piled on your desk :-(

ah well!

Kaelyn (our darling girl) went with my parents to Capetown on the 30th and only comes back on wednesday... missing her terribly but most of all jealous of her accounts of having gone to the beach and built castles and "the water came to get me" ROFL

Have a great day ladies
