Hello everyone

Just an update, I had a scan on thursday and it's a boy! We were a little disappointed at first because we wanted a girl but now I'm getting used to the idea and can see the benefits of having two boys. I'm excited about it now :-)

Shame, Claire and Eve, I hope your kids are feeling better now! It's tough when they're sick.

That's so nice that you get 5 months maternity leave. My maternity leave is unpaid unfortunately, so I'll only be able to take 3 months off. I also had 2 years off (resigned from my job) with my first so it's going to be sad to go back to work when this little boy is still so small :-(

How do you do emoticons in your post?

Hope you're all feeling fine! Chat soon

Ag no man, how frustrating!! Happy for you that baby is so healthy :)

I was so excited for my next scan that I thought it was this Wednesday and then realised it's only next Wednesday. Not holding my breath to see what baby is though because I've convinced myself it's only going to happen after 20 odd weeks.

My 3 year old is also sick but doesn't seem to have it too bad.

Spoke to my principal today and she has "almost" agreed to give me 5 months off - I'm stoked. It's unpaid but I'd rather be off without pay than go back after 3 months. Wish I could be off for even longer like I was with my son - almost 2 years off.

Have an awesome week guys.

Wishing you all the very best

xxxx

Hi everyone!

Went to the dr. today. Everything is looking good. Baby was exactly the right size and kidneys, brain, spine etc. all look good.

The doc tried to see what baby is but unfortunately the knees were in the way, then when the doc tried to get the baby to move, the little brat put it's hands in the way! So, we still don't know what it is. I thought I saw boy parts though. We'll see next time hopefully.

How is everyone doing? This rain is killing me. Both my kids are now sick with colds.

Don't even get me started on names! This baby is in danger of not having a name when it's born. My husband and I can't agree on any names we just hate each other's suggestions. That goes for boy and girl names.

Glad you have a friend to help, Eve. I was lucky, breastfeeding was super easy for me. I can only imagine how bad cracked nipples must be. The infrared on your massager should be fine. It works the same as sunlight. Just a few minutes at a time a few times a day. Also, ask a hundred times for help with latching because if baby isn't latched right, it can make things worse. With my first baby, I actually had the nurse putting my nipple into his mouth! I was mortified at the time but glad later.

I can also express with my fingers! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who does that. Gave all my breast pumps away because doing it by hand is always quicker for me and then no pump to clean and sterilise!

I hear you on being a teacher. My friends husband is a teacher and he says no to all the names because it's linked to some kid he didn't like. Must be impossible. I like Neva Grace and Max though. Still lots of time. We'll probably change our minds on our names...

Oh yes, forgot to say I also don't recall when last I took my vitamin. Poor child!

As for breasts - yes, cracked so badly in hospital already and they told me not to feed on that side so I didn't and then ended up giving up at home because I couldn't handle him latching on the sore boob every time. Plan to be much more prepared this time. I've joined the La Leche breastfeeding group of Facebook to read their advice etc. Apparently the laser gets done by a Physio (arb hey) and I must contact Ruth Katzman who is in Gardens.

I will also research the infrared light - thanks!! Never thought of that. I have a massage head thingy that does infrared.

One of my best friend's has become an absolute pro at breastfeeding - she can even express using her fingers - sounds weird but is amazing. She is on board to make me a breastfeeding queen :)

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow. I initially loved the name Neva Grace for a girl and Max for a boy but not totally convinced anymore. Emma Rose has always been a name I loved but someone at church has just had a baby and named her daughter Emma Rose. Being a teacher, it's tough coz I don't want to name my child after anyone I have taught ;)

Hi Preggy Mamas,

I haven't bought anything..hopefully I won't need to. Waiting to see the gender so I can sort through the clothes I have. I gave all my sons clothes to my nephew but if it's a boy my friend will give me all her sons things. I have a ton of girls clothes, so no worries there. I gave away a whole lot of our baby stuff though. Like my breastfeeding pillow and the bath ring. Feel so stupid that I did that now. Oh well.

Eve - I have no idea who you would ask about laser? Maybe a dermatologist? Did your nipples crack badly last time? Maybe try buying yourself an infrared light from diskem. They let you use them in the hospital but when I had my son, a friend lent me one to use at home. It was amazing. I had a vacuum birth and a very large episiotomy cut. It healed much quicker with the light. It would be great for nipples too.

As for the weight, despite being good I have put on 1.5 kgs! I guess it's just inevitable! Oh and Jupiter, I hear you on the vitamins. I'm sure this baby is going to have 2 heads! I keep forgetting to take mine. So bad!

I am 18 weeks today. Can't believe it. Everything is going so fast. I have a scan next week on Tuesday. Can't wait.

Has anyone thought of names yet? We like Griffin for a boy and Zady for a girl. My son keeps calling the baby Steve! So funny.
