Starting to realise that buying and collecting all these things beforehand is not the best way to do it when you don't have space i.e. an actual nursery for your baby.

Everyone is being very generous and lending us stuff and I obviously can't help shopping but now we have no space - stuff lying everywhere. Tomorrow is my day to sort out all the crap lying around and actually out it away in the massive cupboards that we have but are just too lazy to use *clears throat - that my dear hubby is too lazy to use.

Gel pads - apparently they help soothe your nipples in between feeds - probably just a gimmick or not really necessary.

Name - nope, no Irish blood. Didn't actually realise they were both Irish till I googled the meaning of Calum - just a coincidence really. Calum means dove and is linked to the holy spirit so I'm super chuffed.

Campcot - I was also worried about bending down to put baby down and pick him up but my friend said it isn't that bad so I should be okay.

Movement - shucks, Calum really must love food because the moment I eat something, he moves a lot. I told my gorgeous child to feel Calum kicking Mommy's tummy and he politely came over to my tummy and said "Calum, you not be needing to kick Mommy" - and then he winked at me, as if to say, I got your back Mommy

With my DS we had a wooden cot and we also bought a camp cot for travelling and sleeping out. It turned out he slept better in the camp cot so he ended up sleeping in it all the time and hardly used the wooden cot. We got rid of the wooden cot and kept the camp cot, which we still have, but we bought the second hand one because it has a bassinet which our old one doesn't have and I'd prefer not to have to bend down so much to put baby down and lift him out. We also aren't bothering to buy a wooden cot, camp cots are just fine and babies seem to prefer them anyway!

About the gel pads, I'm not sure what those are? With DS I used nipple cream and disposable breast pads, that's all. I didn't really have too much of a problem with cracked or sore nipples. but I only breastfed for 3 months

The car seat cover sounds awesome. You're so lucky that you have a mom who can sew. I wish I could sew, but i'm terrible at it.

We still haven't bought a pram. I have a feeling we will only get one once bubs arrives! We're using our current two car seats for bubs and upgrading DS to a booster seat, which we still have to buy.

As for me, no real news to report. Been feeling bubs moving a lot. He seems to be very still during the day then likes to kick the crap out of me when I go to bed. Hope this doesn't mean he's going to be one of those babies who sleeps all day and stays awake all night! I have my next appointment on the 8th, day after the election. will have to speak to gynae about birthing options - elective CS or VBAC. My husband says I should have the CS, I still haven't decided. I want a VBAC but as I said in a previous post Hubby is going away for work on the 23 Aug which is cutting it a bit too close to my due date. Maybe talking to the gynae will give me a better idea of what to do.

Yes I am super excited. Feels more real now and getting interesting coz now I can connect with baba and call him by his name Calum.

Oh awesome bargain! I also have one of the wrap thingies - never used much with Connor but plan to with this baba seeing as I will need hands free for both of them. .

My friend is lending me her campcot mattress so we will use our campcot instead of buying a cot. I thought I definitely wanted a wooden cot but looking to save now so campcot will do. I did splurrge on a travel system though - got the Baby Bugz Senova - I'm so chuffed.

Spent 2k on nappy specials yesterday which should last for a few months and then planning to move to cloth nappies for during the day only and possibly when we go out.

Oh yes, wanted to ask - I bought Lanisoh nipple cream at Dischem coz they are the cheapest but was wondering if I need the gel pads too - is it necesary?

Also, are disposable breast pads better or the washable ones?

My mom is making me an awesome little cover for the car seat - she's sewing elastic around the edge of a receiving blanket to grip over the car seat to protect from wind and sun without it blowing off. Sorry if I already told you this but can't remember jack lately.

Yay! Congrats, Eve! Two boys, like me. It's exciting hey? I got a date with my cute boy tomorrow, I'm taking him to see Rio 2. It's his first time going to the cinema and he's so excited about it. Been counting the sleeps LOL

I bought 2 things for bubs today: a second hand camp cot with bassinet for R300 - bargain! - and a wrap thing for babywearing , you know the one made of stretchy material that you wrap around yourself for hands free carrying?

Going to try have a relaxing week off work this week. Bit of quality time with my son before baby arrives

I'm not sure about a hospital plan but I know I had to register my first birth - did it more coz it was fun for me to register it Not sure if absolutely necessary. Clearly they know I'm pregnant because I've been going for gynae scans and blood work and they're paying.

Re a VBAC, if that's something you really want to try then I would say go for it - and especially because you had a bad experience csection. My csection on the other hand, although emergency and not my choice, wasn't bad at all and I am doing it again purely because I couldn't find a gynae who as willing to take me on only using them as a backup.

Saying that, I am concerned about not driving for 6 weeks as my son needs to go to school and my mom won't drive our car because it's quite big and also new. My husband will be home for maybe 2 weeks but what happens after that?

Eve, what is that powder you mentioned, the one for the umbilical cord? What does it do and where do you get it?

And do you have to register with discovery if you're only on a hospital plan? I'm on the coastal core hospital plan. My hubby phoned them a couple of weeks ago and they said I just have to phone them a month before the birth to give them the codes. Last time I was on a different medical aid (momentum) and I had to register and go on the maternity programme and everything but that was a full medical aid, not just a hospital plan.

I was hoping for a VBAC, but now I'm toying with the idea of having a scheduled c-sec. The reason is I'm scared that I'll go into labour and then need an emergency c-sec anyway. I feel a scheduled c-sec is better than an emergency c-sec. Plus, my hubby has to go away for work on the 23 Aug for about 4 nights. My due date is the 15th. I'm worried that if I wait for labour to start the baby might decide to come a day before my hubby goes away or even while he's away, which will be worse! If I schedule a c-sec it will probably be done about a week before the due date which will give me a bit of time to recover from the birth and settle down with baby before hubby goes away. I don't know what to do. My last c-sec was horrible, I hated it, and if I have a second one it will probably be harder with a 4 year old to look after as well. Anyone got any advice?
