Hey Berry.
Welcome to our group... Congratulations !!! Wishing you a healthy 9 months !
If you are suffering with morning sickness on that scale you should consider chatting to your doctor about taking something for it. I take Asic and it's a lifesaver!!!!

Good luck for tomorrow and let us know how it goes

Hi Ladies,

Nausea and vomiting has taken over my daily routines. I've been feeling so sick and hungry and thirsty! Dont feel like eating much and drinking liquids seem to make me more nauseas - I can't explain it. I have been trying this and that like fruit, but I can only have one or 2 bites then it's enough. Popsicles gets me through the really hot days, but they are most of the time also too sweet for my liking. I am a vegetarian and that makes it worse. I'm worried about getting enough vitamins in my body at the moment, but I swear even my folic acid tablets makes the nausea worse. So I am not taking any vitamins at the moment. Can't take almost any smells either. Doing grocery shopping is almost always followed by vomiting :( Have been buying "ready meals" that you just put in the oven for the family. Can't wait for this phase of pregnany to pass :(

On the bright side - seeing the Gynae for the first time tomorrow and this will also be the first time that I ever go to a Gynae. So not sure what to expect.. Can't wait to see baby and hear it's heartbeat. The cost is R1200 for the first consultation and thereafter R600 each. That includes a basic scan every time.

Good luck with the rest of the week ladies!

Thanks, DieSwartKat... My doctor also confirmed that it wouldn't be necessary, and only suggests it if something looks terribly wrong and the parents need more information/answers.

My gynae is at Femina and he charges R780, except for "big appointments" like the NT Scan.

My pregnancy is viewed as high-risk because of previous MCs and I've been bleeding since 6 weeks. The bleeding is unexplained and my gynae is happy that baby and placenta are both looking great, but thinks it might be small veins collapsing outside the womb, so I see him more frequently to keep an eye on things.

What have been your worst symptoms. I'm tired all the time and nausea is killing me...

hi there ladies!

Welcome to the group Betti & Kiara :)

hectic week for me again, but feeling much better about life in general. i think the last few weeks have been controlled by my hormones & it finally feels like I'm sort of back to normal for now :)

My obgyn charges just over R500 and appointment (including basic scan). I really like her because she a straight to the fact kind of doctor. No waffling about. I'm sure for some mommies it isn't that appealing, but i love it! At my previous visit she said that seeing me in 6 weeks would be fine. I'm sure they'll become more frequent as time goes by, but 6 weeks is fine for me as I'm pretty sure all my medical aid savings will be gone by the time baby arrives.

@Betti wrt the downs test, from what i recall from my convo with my doc the earlier the test/screening (10-14 weeks) the better. There's also an option for 16-18 weeks, but it is less accurate.

Welcome to the new girls! Our club is getting bigger every day. :woohoo:

Betti, the downs test is only one of the things they check at 12 weeks. Basically one blood test for you, but several checks that they do in the lab. These screenings are always performed between weeks 12 and 14. Depending on what your view in life is, this will allow you to abort the fetus (or not). Obviously this is not possible after 20 weeks.

Kiara, the test you are talking about is now roughly R11 000 and not covered fully by most medical aids. I haven't encountered a single woman who has ever gone for this test, the "basic" one that we all do is more than sufficient. Certain genetic disorders, like one or two variations of Trisomy, is unfortunately not diagnosed early on but usually gets picked up by at least week 16.

Hi Betti,

Welcome, even though I'm also new...

I also have to go in for the NT scan at 12 weeks. I'm not sure why you have to go twice, but my process will be:
1. NT scan at week 12. If anything is abnormal, then I can do the follow up scan.
2. Or I could do the blood test (called Harmony, I think). It is 99.9% accurate and checks for all abnormalities including Downs and Trisomy... But the test is freaking expensive, so I'm praying that I won't need it.

Hi Betti!

The more the merrier

The down syndrome screen is part of the prenatal screening they do between 10 - 14 weeks. it tests for a host of things and based on the results they do further testing around 16-20 weeks. eg the amnio test.

Thats my understanding.. i had my 10 week scan last week and went for the prenatal screen as well.

Hi Kiara.. Welcome and congratulations!!
