Oh my soul mommies... I am sooooooo sad!!!

I just read on News24 about the young mom who died from Birdflu...

Apparently she went for her normal scan and complained about not feeling well.

She was diagnosed and baby was born via c-sec. The baby is safe, but the mother died. They also have a 4year old daughter...

This is soooooo sad!

According to the article it happened at Parklane Clinic. I remember some of ourmommies are going there...

Hi ladies

Well I thought about everything last night and had a "sleep on it". I spoke to my husband this morning and told him my feelings on the matter. The first thing was to tell him to be neutral when discussing things with my mother because what she might have said could have easily been misinterpreted by his mother. I gently reminded him that the women in his family do have a tendency to misread certain things and blow them out of proportion and since he's only heard it from his mom's side it would be better to ask my mom exactly what she's had to say and smooth over anything she might have misunderstood from me regarding what I want with respect to registries, etc. I said that as far as I'm concerned, I really have no problem with being courteous enough to find out if there is a date for the family friend's shower, but if there isn't that we shouldn't need to wait around for it because most women agree that a first baby trumps a second baby AND that in any case what will be more important is picking a date for mine when I am actually available! I told him that I have weekend shifts booked and I'm not prepared to have anyone interfere with those bookings because I don't want any of my part-time employers feeling that I've become unreliable and, quite frankly, it would also interfere with my financial budgeting and I'm not prepared to put that at risk especially when it's getting so close to when my LG is due. So I've given him the dates and times of when/where I'm working. Then I told him that if arranging this party is going to cause tension and fighting between our mothers and with his sisters then the lot of them can take a back seat and we'll arrange things ourselves. This should be a time for everyone to come together and be happy, not cause hassles.

I must say that I really don't mind shower games. The only thing I've said to my mom is that they mustn't try to do that one where everytime someone says a certain word or words that you need to say "Tag" or whatever to win a prize because it doesn't work! It's interrupting when people actually play it properly and when it's not played properly everyone just kind of forgets about it. But otherwise I have no problem with getting into the spirit of things, I don't see them being ridiculous with me. I really don't want to have a shower like one that I recently attended which was quite boring. I'm not saying that "no games = boring", just the way it had been arranged it was very dull and I'd like something where everyone has fun and gets into the spirit of things.

I had such a horrible experience with my hen party and I don't want a repeat of that! My kitchen tea was fantastic and I really wouldn't have minded if that had been my only pre-wedding party because the hen party was a total mess and caused big fights, with two of our wedding party "resigning" three weeks before the event.

So that's my story in the mean time... We'll see how things play out. I'm just hoping that DH can maintain some diplomacy and steer our mothers and his sisters in the right direction without causing drama. It's always so tricky with a big family!

As far as stretch marks go I also think it also really depends on your genes. I've got a lot of stretch marks on my hips and thighs from when I was a preteen and a bit overweight. I know that I scar badly, I'm just hoping that keeping my skin in good condition is helping to reduce/prevent stretch marks on my tummy.

As far as I know and from what I've seen with my SIL, they turn "white" or go a shade lighter than your normal skin colour.

They never go away...

What a plastic surgeon told me was that with every scar, as long as it is red/pink, you can still minimise the scarring. Once it turns white, the tissue is then "dead" and nothing you do or put on it, will take it away.

So it's best treating it whilst it's still "fresh".

They also say exfoliating and scrubbing in shower aids in the removal of dead cells, and this will help to moisturize better for strechmarks.

Kimmy, they say strechmarks have a lot to do with genes... You're either prone to them or not.

I'm also paranoid about them, although it seems my skin isn't to prone to them. But then again - that doesn't stop me from feeling like an oil doughnut every day!!!

Watching "One Born Every Minute" and "Babies: Special Delivery" I've been mentally scared by some of those mommies "pregnancy badges"... the one mommy had black stripes running from her boobies all the way down to her pubic bone... My SIL also got really bad strechmarks in her lower belly. She's fit, rubbed lotion and oil everyday - but she still got it.

As an extra precaution Kimmy, you can also take Calc Fluor tissue salts. It assist with tissue elasticity. I'm drinking it for ligament pain and it's an amazing all round pregnancy tissue salt.

Your first pregnancy's shower is very special... I agree - set a date!!!

We'll be throwing our own shower for baby 2. I'm extremely picky and my first shower almost ended up in a family fued, as my SIL on purpose arranged everything I said I didn't want at my baby shower - silly shower games, getting dressed up in a big nappy etc... I'm sorry - I hate that type of stuff.

So when I heard of it, I threatened to cancel if she proceeds.

This time around we'll host a shower like we want it with the mommies inside and the hubbies outside and afterwards we'll all have a braai and kuier together.

We're very social people... and this is something to get everyone involved.
