@LouiseMarie – believe me, there are soooo many medical aid plans out there with so many options for each, there are probably plenty where you don't get a goody bag. I don't get one on mine. But with the way my plan is structured, like Discovery, I got 6 prenatal appointments paid for and then the birth (at the scheme rate). Don't believe Discovery if they tell you that they're the only plan that offers that

My plan doesn't work on MSA, there are set limits for different benefits; dental, optical, auxiliary, specialist, pathology, etc. What's nice is that when my pathology and radiology benefits are exhausted (as they are now) the scheme still pays 80% of the claim at scheme rate and will continue to do so until the annual out of hospital benefit (sitting at about R62k) is exhausted.

@HVDB – I think you'll have to call Momentum and ask them or look on their website.

I registered at Dischem yesterday and bought my thermometre and a couple of little extras. So I'll see how long it takes for my goody bag to arrive

I actually posted on the Discovery Facebook page yesterday and had their Executive Relationship Manager call me and then later e-mail me...

This was their response:

"As a healthcare funder, Discovery health has a responsibility to its members to provide access to top quality healthcare, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the scheme and therefore the Discovery Baby Bag is available to our Discovery Health members as part of the Vitality benefit and provided they meet certain requirements."

So yes - if you are just a regular Discovery Health member - NO BAG! Which I feel is highly unfair...

So you have to opt in for Vitality @ R200/pp per month, in order to enjoy benefits like the 15 - 25% from Dischem & Clicks on all baby related products, the baby bag, the discount vouchers etc... So indirectly - you pay for it!

I am luckily on Vitality, but if I wasn't trust me - I would have seriously thrown my toys out!!!!!! Discovery is the only Medical Aid that doesn't offer you a baby bag upon registering your pregnancy. All other medical aids I know of have a baby bag.

On the other hand I also have to give credit to Discovery Health, because on the option I am on, they cover 8 gynae appointments for the year even if your MSA is depleted. Which for me is a MAJOR benefit, as our MSA was depleted in April already with my daughter breaking her arm and all the specialist, xray appointments etc going off on my MSA. So I'm fully covered for all my gynae appointments till baby is born. Discovery is the only medical aid who's offering this to it's members.

Yep it looks like this is a pink forum for sure... well, we don't know yet and will only find out when baba is born...as there aren't any kiddies on Hubby's side of the family, we decided to give baba Daddy and grand daddy's names if it is a boy... Christaan Daniel and.... if it is a girl... we are thinking of Amelia or Isabel...not final on the girl name. Oh the Chinese calendar shows its a boy... but I am not going to put my heart on it.

DH haven't had really any baby experience so far, with no children in the family that he is close to and friends on his side... I think that the pre-natal classes is more important for him. For me... I am a first time mom so don't know what to expect so I def need it, but was really involved with with my sisters and brother's babies (5 in total) so not to nervous about it. So we decided that we will go, but here in Pretoria they don't have weekly classes anymore, so we will be going on the 22 August from 8 to 4 so it is going to be information overload. Hubby asked what will we be doing during the natural birth section (2 hours) as we will be having a c-section on the 9th of Oct, I told him that it is best we go as we will need to know what to do should I go into labour before (which will not be good as I have that darn fibroid which could cause complications, thus the c-section).

I will be registering at Dischem this week... does any of you know if Momentum Health offers any similar bags?

When I was expecting my first, my friend was 3months further along than me... A boy.
By some grace of God I'm not kidding you - when she told me this year she was pregnant we joked that it would be like repeating history if I had to fall pregnant now... And we did! And once again, she is exactly 3 months ahead of me - Again with a BOY!!!

So we were pregnant the same time - and now again, with the exact same gender as our first!

I was seriously thinking this must a Chinese gender prediction thing, but then I remembered it is based on your age @ conception... But it is truly super weird!!!

I think we'll only go for a "one night" refresher course. I'm comfortable with breastfeeding, bathing baby etc - so no need to go through those classes again I feel. This time however we are considering a first aid course!

I also feel more comfortable doing the classes at the hospital where the birth takes place... cause it's usually one of their matrons or sisters that offer the class - so they also inform you on their procedures, what you can expect etc etc... Whereas if you go to a private institution, I feel it's less "personal".

I'm still stunned about this 2009 vs 2015 baby comparison!

Lilly are you going natural or C-Sec? My due date is 28 November, but C-sec is planned for a week prior (if all goes well and if the date doesn't change later on in pregnancy).

My due date is 2 Nov, but im almost sure she will be born in Oct. My lg was born at 38 weeks. Had a induction (had high bp last 2 weeks) and she was born via normal delivery in only hour and half

When our prenatal classes did the section on natural delivery i was in hospital so didnt attend any of those classes either. Did the whole csec part which wasnt much help
