i also enjoyed the ante natal classes. They were very informative. My hubby went with me, so when i was stuck in ICU, he knew exactly what to do with a 3 day old baby he had to take care of. Not sure if i will do them again this time, will you be attending them again, or is once enough?

So all three of us who's got 5 year old girls, will be having another girl!!! Oh my word, this is so awesome (and weird!)!!!

Juanita, when is your due date? Lilly and I are less than a week apart...think 4 days or so?

I agree on the prenatal classes! We really enjoyed them with my first!!! Unfortunately we only attended the C-section classes, so when my water broke a week prior to my scheduled delivery date and my contractions were 8minutes apart - I WAS FREAKING OUT!!! Had NO idea what to do!!!
When I arrived @ hospital I was already 5cm dilated and in serious pain!!! Luckily gynae was super fast and my daughter was born within 30 minutes via emergency c-sec.

So this time - just for in case - we will attend the natural birth classes.

Pillpusher, we went for antenatal classes with my first pregnancy and it was worth EVERY CENT!! Was soooo awesome and soo informative! Our "teacher" was also our midwife and she helped me soo much, especially when my lg was just born. she came to my room and helped me latch her correctly. Lots of people said it would be a waste but dh and i said we would rather be over prepared and it really was worth it. i would def recommend it to any new parent!
Its been so long since we had a new born im thinking maybe i should sign up again. Especially for the breastfeeding, im feeling so anxious when i just think about it. i honestly get a hollow feeling in my stomach when i hear the word. With Leandi i breastfed for 3 months, i had such mixed emotions back then, it really was a bit of a love hate relationship. Suppose it was different coz i was diagnosed with Prenatal Depression a couple of months after, and i was really overwhelmed with everything.
Will have to make sure the hospital i plan to go to has a Lactation consultant. Maybe even have a chat to her before hand?

Yes my baby is turning 6 this year..LOL. i must say this pregnancy feels like its my first. I dont remember much from the first one, so it feels like its the first time i am doing this. I am currently expecting another girl. you?

@Lillyr – so sorry to hear about your friend's little one. I hope he'll be ok. I didn't even know what that was – had to do a google search! I think that might be one of the things they check in the anomaly scan, at least normal organ placement and the thoracic cavity was done (lungs, heart).

I'm on a medical aid which is administered by Discovery, but I didn't sign up for Vitality. I thought about it and was going to look into it, but just didn't bother. Extra payments are a pain and when things are already stretched tightly it's not really viable unless the benefits will really help. But I've decided that I'm going to go and sign up at Dischem for their baby club. I don't even have a Dischem card I figured that I need to buy a digital thermometre and was going to look at buying one at Clicks over the weekend when I work there so I can get discount, but I think it looks like it'll be cheaper at Dischem either way. So I'll sign up and spend the required R300 and hope for some nice goodies. They do warn that the contents will vary according to the supplier donations.

@HVDB – my antenatal classes start next week. I know a lot of people think they're a waste of money, but even as a healthcare professional I think it's important for me to realise that there are things that I don't know and save myself the time and hassle of Googling so much stuff or asking people that aren't really experts. I've also heard that they're a great way to meet other parents with little ones due around the same time. As it is I know two of the ladies that I'll be having class with, one I randomly asked if she was doing classes and she said not so I sent info to her... later that day she says that she'll see me in class

I just realised now from LillyR's ticker, that myself, Juanita and Lilly's 1st daughters are the same age - all turning 6?! So it will be the same age gap!!!

It's so sad about your friend... No mother and unborn child deserves to go through something like that!!! But on the other hand - isn't the technology amazing that they can pick up on something like this in utero?

I had a look - once logged onto the Discovery site, you need to go to the Vitality option and then register for Vitality Baby. You only insert your due date en personal details I think... They didn't ask for any procedure codes or admission number etc.
