question-circle Bullied at school - now insecure

Shame Juno.

And I really can't answer your question as I am in the same situation.

I am thinking of enrolling C in karate, just to boost his confidence, keep him focused and disciplined.

(Sure... in the back of my mind I hope he uses it for the little snot nose, but we all know that is not the correct thing to even think, never mind condone.)

I will tell him under no circumstances is he to use any karate move at school except to defend himself is he is in a situation.

I definitely have a more sensitive toddler and am already worried that he may be the one that is subjected to bullying - he's already had exposure to what was a really aggressive toddler his age and didn't respond well - he wasn't walking at the time. So from my perspective how does one teach a kid from the start how to stand up for himself if he is not naturally inclined to do so?

Elamsmom many kids hit at that age. Dylan did too but he is better now. Just keep on saying no I don't like it when you hit me or it makes mommy sad when you hit me or we don't hit etc.

Lol at B's arms being the same size as C's thighs.

RM & Julz, my 1and bit yr old is also a feisty little one who slaps u in the face if u dare pull her away from whatever she is busy doing. When the nanny comes to take her from me for a bath/feed etc, she also gets a few wacks in the face. If u remember the little boy from Wimpy who was shouting at her & wouldn't let her play on the slides, he also missed her slap by the skin on his teeth!

But it does concern me, I must say. Firstly, I have all the "where did she learn this behaviour from" issues & secondly, I don't want her to grow into a little bully either :( Am monitoring the situation very closely and occassionally hit her back (softly) so she can understand that it is not nice cos the sternest of "NO's!" doesn't seem to be working. :(

Thanks ladies, I just want C to stand up for himself, obviously I don't want him to be a bully but he needs to realise he can and should stand up for himself!

I am sure Dylan and Isabelle will not be bullies, but they will stand up for themselves which is the right thing!

C is an over sensitive child who thinks the whole world is against him at times, and normally I am the big bad wolf in the situation.

My youngest is completely the opposite, he is 5 years younger than C and almost more independant, I think when they are at school together Cael will have a body guard as B takes no crap from anyone!!! B's arms are about the same size as C's thighs!!!

I fear for the kids in Isabelle's class - that girl packs a punch, that girl has a lot of weight behind her. That girl is not going to be pushed around by anyone.

That girl fights with a 9 year old and wins.

I might need to start preparing myself now for several "principal visits."

Good luck JoJo

I have been watching Dylan and a part of me thinks he may be the bully eventually so equally worried. A small part of me is pleased that he stands up for himself so I monitor him and make sure that he isn't pushy around other kids and make sure that the other kids don't give into him either.
