Jan/Feb 2011 Mommies (Nov & Dec 2010 early babes)

Chris- it' 0.6ml Vidaylin daily but in 2 0.3ml doses. My Dr says the only reason for splitting it into 2 doses is because it tastes horrible but my boys don't mind it so now I'm just giving them 0.6ml in one bottle.

I also found by 6w when hubby went back to work I just didn't have the time to express milk anymore. I was very sad about it bbut if I had to try and continue I would for sure have gone insane. I was only getting 180ml each time and I was barely managing to do it 3 times a day. I think to express to 6w with 3 kids is quite a huge achievement so I didn't beat myself up too much and since I stopped expressing those few extra mins a day make my life bearable.

Have you tried to 'prop' feed the babies? I feed both babies on my own every feed including the night feed, I know there's no ways you can do it without DH but maybe if you can just prop feed 1 baby it can mean you can feed all 3 at once and get a little bit more time in between feeds?

Maryke- sorry your night nurse hasn't pitched this week. I know the tiredness all too well!

MommyN- sorry about your friends premmie, must be so hard when there is more than just a weight issue. I am so thankfull for my 2 healthy premmies.

As for the paed, dh was so upset the other night, when we were there we had asked about colic cos Alessandro was screaming there and we think he has been battling with it, and the paed just brushes it off as if itsd nothing. So 2 nights ago Athen was screaming and crying for over 2 hours, our heart broke to see tears coming from a small baby and we couldn't do anything to settle her (eventually warm water helped her and she slept like a real baby), but dh was walking up and down with her complaining and swearing the paed. So we are definitely chaging.

Maryke, my sister also goes to dr blignaut so we going there, plus its closer than having to go to garden city.

Vix, glad all went well with the sterilization.

MommyN, u talk about Nathan liking the arms, I tell you, Alexia is the same, she sleeps nicely but if she is awake. starting to sleep, she cries cos she wants to be cuddled, and her dummy! She cries if it comes out her mouth, but when she sleeps she spits it out, lol, I rather have the dummy than the finger and especially with 3 babies, dummies are good!! Btw, hope you had a great day at the zoo! Hope your friend is ok!

Binks, shame man, hope Vanya feels better soon, thats terrible, sounds like she was very sick, hope she gets well soon.

Maryke, sorry abut the night nurse nto making it, we also have a night nurse, but I still get up every feed (well its different with 3) but cos we only get about 45mins between feeds, dh sometimes lands up sleepin in the tv room, but I complained and told him he has to come to bed especially since we dont have much time together.

I am finding it hard to find time to express, my milk is starting to lessen as I only go about 3 times a day now Just not enough hours in a day, babies feeding 3 hourly, then if they dotn sleep after feed, that time between feeds is gone, and they take about 45mins an hiour to feed... each, so to help me during the day so we can cope, we have to do 2 and 1, feed 2 then 1 after, which basically leaves you with an hour til next feed.

Anyway.

Really these growth spurts are getting to me.......

My night nurse hasn't been for the whole week has gastro so I am so tired...Hubby tries to take the first shift but you know he really can leave it cause I end up taking Aiden calming him down and getting him to bed again...he puts all the lights on in the room takes his time to make the bottle then starts chatting to them taking them downstairs and watching tv... really I done my flip last night I keep telling him the more quite and quick you are the easier they will fall asleep again what part of I am trying to get them in a routine doesn't he understand I know he is trying to help but it doesn't help if he is making double work for me

My lg had a bad asthma attack on wednesday night so I was up with her too but I think she is also getting a cold that's all I need now

I coloured my hair this morning and I think I left it on too long and now I look orange blonde instead of blonde I am so peeved with myself trying to find the cheap way out

Good morning all

I have read the posts but cant remember alot.

Just a quick update we been missing coz Vanya landed up in hospital Sunday morning and we got home yesterday, my poor angel had, MRSA, pneumonia, ? baby measles and a bladder infection. But all going well now just suffers terribly from colic.

Maryke had to laugh, you get people like that we do it at work aswell when they ask us silly questions.

Chris your babies are getting so big good weights, Vanya is 5kg now. I'd be miff about the milk as well.

Vix glad op went well. I love my Pead to death, when we got to the hospital though we had the one Dr we hate coz small town they take turns been on duty over the weekend, so when Monday came hubby had a fight coz i told them i want my Dr and they wouldnt call her for me, Dont they realise i choose her for a reason.

MommyN bleeding not so lekka, i just finished my after birth bleeding and im so chaffed, go see your Dr.

Lizelle, Congratz again and lots of joy, you really made my day when we were in hospital, it was noce seen one of the other babies.

Yvette how it going with you guys, Arwen still sweet with her baba, I read your post on how you cope with the 2 and got some good advice, so instead of smacking and smacking we smack coz she is been naughty tell her no and take her to her room and she now knows she is only aloud out if she stops throwing tantrums and stopped crying. We have our time which we bath and play and then i feed Vanya she plays with dad, it to cute, so we getting there, my girl getting big she even gets into bed and closes herself when we say its bed time, we tuck in her net and she happy to go to sleep. Shame.

Carmen you almost there sweetheart sorry i might have missed it or not but has the baby turned yet or when you going in for birth, Natural or C- Sec??

And I forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Moomie yesterday! thanks Jana for everything you do for us! Moomie is my saving grace some days!

Ok, so I am feeling a bit better today - with Nathan being awake all day he slept from 5pm till 7pm - just gave cuddle and he was asleep within 10 mins (no feed) and slept till 12am. So maybe thats what we needed to get his day and night sorted out, at last. He fed at 12 and was asleep quick and woke at 3am, quick feed and slept until 5am. THen he didnt want to sleep.

DH has taken today off and we are going to visit the kiddies zoo, go for lunch and see his folks. We havent had a day out as a family basically since we were in Margate last September. So I am going to try keep Nathan awake more during the day and see how tonight goes. Like sleep training, it is difficult for a few days but worth it in the end!

THanks Chris and Vix, at least I know I must continue with the vits. I know the iron is important as I tend to be iron deficient and with EBF it is very important (Vix starting your iron tabs now, finally finished my old ones). Chris, my problem is I am EBF and hate expressing, but I am going to go back to expressing a bit and give it like that. Yip, Vix, I have been doing it like you said, except using the vidalyn with iron, so I'll change over to the regular and see how it goes. Sarah is on ferrimed, and she much prefers it. THe iron is the only thing that has helped with her sleeping!

Vix, you are so loucky to have found a good paed. it must be a huge relief to finally have someone who can help with C and the "c". I really hope it gets sorted out soon!!! I've never really had problems, so I cant imagine what he must go through!

Chris - really, go and find a paed that you have faith in! With 3 babas, you HAVE TO have a good relationship. One who you can just phone on some days! THey are out there. Perhaps post a thread for paeds in your area. I am quite happy with the who delivered Nathan, but I still think I will eventually switch to Sarah's paed who is just lovely. He is natural and so good with the kids. He is mad, but I love him! He first greats the kids, except for one time when sarah was not well and clingy, he says he is the kids Dr and he greets them first and then me! I have to sit on the bed with him when he examines them - feet up, just like the child and he does the same - he says it helps calms the child! He calls his receptionist a "slave" - but in a nice way! He has a big furry beard (I usually dont like beards) but he is like a cuddly bear! He makes you phone him 3 days after your appointment, and if u dont, he phones you!

And bonus - he is 100% medical aid rates and contracted in! If I phone in the morning I get an appointment that afternoon!!!

Anyways, I will give gynae a call on monday and see what he says (maybe things get better by then!) Its very difficult for me as I have never had my AF for more than 3 days in my life!

Vix, I totally agree with trying EVERYTHING you do for your baba! I have tried nasa spray, asperation, even tried wiping my bum with wet wipes! The vitamins are the worst and i never get cross when they wont take them - and now Sarah takes hers beautifully - so I must just persavere with Nathan! It helps so much knowing that it does get better - Sarah is proof!

Ok, enough. Yesterday was just crazy and hopefully today will be better!

Vix, the boys are doing really well! 14th is perfect for me! We have our jabs on the friday that week.

Chris, how has your week been? I always hope that no news is good news! I KNOW you are so busy! I really hope that you are enjoying getting to know your family!

Ok, everyone, I better go get ready for our day out... I am really excited. Probably going to be hectic but a change to my normal day!

Shame, a friend visited me yesterday and I heard about her sisters emergency c-sec and prem baba, and EVERYTHIN went wrong! There is quite a lot wrong with him and some things they will only try to sort out in a few years time! It just made me realise how fortunate I really am! I can deal with a niggly baby who is adjusting to a normal life!

Thanks Vix, going to try to get those dummies and honey - i'll let you know if I find, and I can buy for you? They are so cheap! i couldnt remember the "cherry" name!

MommyN- Snookums cherry dummies are what the tweenies have, they're about R16 for a pack of 2 they are real cheapies but I haven't found them anywhere except baby city and my baby city has run out grrrrr Also try the honey on the dummy because my boys way preffereed that to the glycerine. Pasturized honey- you can buy at any super market it must just say 'radurised' or 'radified' on the bottle, pasturised honey is perfectly fine to give babies it's the raw/natural honey that contains all those spores that are dangerous. Sure you can put it in Saarah's tea, good to hear her milk bottles are cut down already, I promise you I'm having a nightmare to get C off the milk bottles at 2!

As for the vitamins, here's what I did with Alex when he was on the breast,

just give regular Vidaylin and give Ferrimed for the iron it tastes better:

Am: 0.3ml Vidaylin, 0.25ml Ferrimed, 1 D Drop mixed with 0.5ml EBM and administer from a syringe (add a drop of honey to sweeten if baby still won't take)

Lunchtime: 0.25ml Ferrimed (sweet so no need to mix with EBM)

Afternoon: 0.25ml Ferrimed

Bedtime: 0.3ml Vidaylin, 0.25ml Ferrimed mixed with EBM and honey if needed

That seemed to work really well for Alex because the most he was getting was just just over 1ml at a time which was easy from a syringe

My Pead is great and I love his way of explaining things, he taught me to give the Vits this way because he says you must ALWAYS test your childs meds before you give to your baby, that way you'll realise baby isn't being naughty not drinking meds it's because it tastes like cr@p and the Vidaylin definately does. So just give each concoction a little dip of the finger and see how it tastes, if it's really still awful add radurised honey until it tastes bearable at least. You'll see the Ferrimed is actually pleasent. I hate the Gaviscon so I can see exactly why Alex pulls a hideous face when I give it to him but there's not much you can disguise the taste of Gaviscon with LOL

I'm bringing the babies through for Jabs again on 14th so maybe we can do coffee again?

Chris- if youb don't like your Paed then definately change, I didn't like either of the first 2 I had for C so eventually stopped using Paeds all together then when the tweenies were born I got Dr Walker here in Benoni and I was amazed how wonderful he is so I took C for a check up and he was just amazing with him and has helped his constipation issues for the first time in 2 years. I think it's very important to have a good relationship with your Paed just as with your OB/GYN, let's face it, you're entrusting your childrens lives in their hands.

Carmen- you. Must be getting excited? Are the windows in yet?

The Sterilization went well, Dr was pleased with the procedure and I really haven't had much pain, I do have heavy period aches but I got my first period since the birth on Tuesday so I think it could just be that.

MommyN- please speak to your gynae about the bleeding, I got mine on Tuesday and already it's slowed to almost nothing. 3 weeks is a bit extreme if you ask me even postbirth and with Mirena. All my periods were normal after my first C-sec.

O.k must sleep cos it's 5am!!!!
