hi girls how are you all? sorry i;v ebeen quiet - just so busy with everything. been a tough week.
fisrtly my maid decided that she does not want to work every sat morning anymore but will work every second sat to help me out. i don;t have a contract with her which is something i will be sorting out this week. nice drop in the mud. sheesh man, its only 4hrs but it helps me tremendously. i need to sleep in the day becasue if i don;t my milk supply gets affected, and quickly. then i spend 2 more days trying to get it back up again with a niggley baby.
ashley is doing well at 'school'. she loves it there even though its only 3 hours mon/wed/fri mornings.
emily weighs 4.84kg as of today - exactly 2kg picked over birth weight in 5weeks 6days. well done baby girl! mommy feels it though!

. she;s wearing 0-3month things now - newborn way too small because she has long legs and is bigger than average, depsite the low birthweight of 2.84kg. i sorted through ashley's old things today. was quite fun.
on friday last week i went to the gynae because i had a big hematoma (blood clot) right along my incision area. om antibiotics now. vix had the same thing, thank the Lord above its clearing up because i DO NOT want to go back to theatre and have this thing reopened.
mommy - fantastic weigh gain for little nathan-john, well done. are you breastfeeding him? with regards to reflux, here are a few things that helped me with ashley:
- feed upright position at all times even if you breastfeeding, you need to do some gymnastics!
- change nappy BEFORE feed, not during or after because the milk and/or acid will come straight back up
- use ulsanic meds to soothen the oesophagus. (my paed and 2 others i have seen have disagreed with the use of gaviscon - so pls check with your paed.) dr's have different opinions. there was a paediatric gavsicon on the market a few years back but it has been taken off the market.
- use those sleep wedges for him to sleep on or prop up his mattress with a towel underneath to raise to 45* angle - never have him lie flat
- keep upright position for atleast 30mins after feeds
- giv ehim a dummy to suck after feeds - sucking action causes increased saliva production which is alkaline - a natural way to counteract the acid that comes up
- reflux is really just heartburn. he may groan and grunt because his throat and chest feels sore. it is due to a weakened sphincter muscle that sits on top of the stomach. generally the prem babies get this, althoough many bigger ones get it too. as they grow, the muscle will mature and strengthen. there is really no danger with having reflux except if they do not gain weight sufficiently or choke and aspirate on the acid. if he is propped up while sleeping, the likeliness of choking is minimised - gravity, so he;ll spit out or just swallow back down.
he should grow out of this in the next few months. don;t stress!
there are anti-reflux milks on the market - so check out the shelves for when you decide to change to formula. i am sure you are breasfeeding hey? can't remember right now.
carmen - we are waiting for you love! bet you can;t wait! shame and you have had to wait for all ourl ot to be born before yours comes! enjoy packing out the room
lizelle - love kayden's mop of black hair. very pretty. how is your recovery going?
vix - you ok? how is jono doing? how are both their weights now? and how is the big boy C? is your scar 100% now?
chan - kade ok? there was a fantastic med on the market for colic but i cannot for the life of me remember. had it with cameran and i am sure it started with a 'C'.

binks - wish i was parmalat and clover in one! my milk is battling with having no rest. my fault really. luckily emily is gaing really though and i suppose that is all that matters. when are you putting onto a bottle? does vanya take a dummy? does she cluster feed in early evenings? shucks emily does and it is trying of note. perfect timing when the rest of us need to cook, eat and sort out other kids. nic eone on the sleeping through. lucky you!
marie - hi! soon for you! what is your date again?
