Solo, so so glad you are expecting a perfectly healthy LO. And from one boy mommy to another (to be), boys are fun to raise. I also leaned more toward a girl with my 1st pregnancy, but after having my LB, I planned to time intercourse to up my chances of getting another LB. Well, as this one was a bit of a surprise, there was no timing involved. Luckily I also changed my mind and wanted a LG this time. And I honestly think for you it is a blessing in disguise, as your BF will find it easier to bond with a LB. You will see he will turn into the perfect dad and would want to be involved with raising him.

Weeskind, *Hugs*. Such a thing is so traumatic for a community as a whole.

About the prenatal classes... I can't really say if it is informative as I could only attend 2 of the 7 classes as my LB was a bit early (34.6 weeks). But, I am sure I would have received the information that I should have had. I flipping let them do a spinal block purely because I didn't know what it was and ended up not being able to push properly because I couldn't feel what I was doing.

Solo - congrats on the boy

We are starting with antenatal classes in March, looking forward to it!!

Little busy at work, all alone at work, my collegue had a MC last week and still on sick leave until end of next week.
She was 5 weeks pregnant, was a little bit of a shock when she found out she was pregnant as her LG is only 7 months old.

The heat in Cape Town doesn't make it any better, hopefully it's gonna rain tomorrow

My teeth are killing me!

Hmmm... I think what i quickly realised when reading those articles on cloth v disposable diapers is that, no one can reliably say which is better for the environment in the long run, hence our decision came down to 1. Cost savings 2. Convinience and 3. which i think is the most important, what's best for our baby.

I say just like most parenting decisions, just consider your circumstances and follow your own instincts. There is no right/wrong answer here.

But it's always good to listen to those with experience, so if anyone has tried both cloth and disposables please do share.

Philipajane, great post, and if you didn't post it I would have. I always want to play devil's advocate when people feel very strong about going green. Don't get me wrong, I do my bit. I recycle glass (want to start with paper too), I use only energy savers, I shower only 5 minutes, I flipping hug trees and bunnies (OK, I kill mozzies and flies). But, sometimes a specific thing is promoted as being better for nature and it really isn't. And, the same people who do that use for example granite kitchen tops (huge craters in the earth and this is not a resource that can be replaced and took millions of years to form), or take the car when they can walk etc. So, I will be using disposibles again, but I think that I will have to start thinking about burning it.

About the amount, I am really not sure, but deffinitely not too much of size 1. I still think 2x72 packs will be fine. And most shops will exchange for a different size if you still have the slip. I know some places will even do that without the slip, but rather be prepared. Baby City's prices seem OK. That is if you buy the 2 mega ones + pack of wipes option. All wrapped together. And it is the nice Pampers sensitive wipes which is good for the newborns.

I also read about the water consumption, the effect of detergents etc on the environment and i have always wondered about their absobency. And i never knew about the burning. Thanks Philippajane for the detailed info.

Solo, I am SO glad to hear everything is perfect with you and baba! Congratz on team blue!

I also want to go cloth but DH says there is no way! We stay in Richards Bay where there is 4 seasons in one day so you never know when it will rain, and we only have a small courtyard with one washing line and no tuble dryer. As it is I have to wash our clothes every second day just so it will fit the line and dry in time...

Wish the shopping gogga wants to bite! Think if I can just get myself to buy the first baby item I would start to feel like a mom, but just can not get myself to the shops...maybe it will change once we know the gender

AFM: it has been a very sad week for our community... (Maybe you've heard it on the news) Two teachers (Mom and daughter) got gunned down by the Mothers ex boyfriend on Sunday. It happened in the street where I'm looking after the baby, and the whole street is mourning with flowers every where! Maybe I'm being cruel but I'm so mad, I think commiting suicide was the easy way out for the guy on Monday... Het should have been taking down slowly the worst is that the youngest women had her 5yr old daughter with her and got killed on top of her. She ran away and jumped on the back of a bakkie, protevting her child with her body when she got shot! It's really very upsetting!
