Well ladies, this discussion on nappies has been very interesting! I'm honestly very glad we have had it. I'm now leaning more towards disposables because it makes more sense for me at the moment. Being a single mom and working...

Esmari you are a very very busy mom! Phew, you have a lot to do. Mmmm, indulge us...what kind of cakes are you making? I really fancy a nice piece of cake right now Cake is usually a forbidden 4-letter word in my life, but I reckon baba would like a piece....

Rakker everyone is telling me the same thing about LB's. It's going to be fun for me! And yes, I agree, it will make bonding with BF a lot easier. Wow, it looks good to see LB next to my name on your Due Date list!

Ok ladies, quick poll. My grandfather's name was Garrett and I've always loved it because it is so unusual. I'd like to use the name in order to remember my grandpa. I'm thinking of Garrett as a second name... What do you think? I wanted it as a first name, but then I thought he could be teased as Garrett might become Carrot at school. You know how cruel school kids are...!!! I also found out now that Garrett is a character in Twilight series -I'm not a Twilight fan so I had no idea until I googled Garrett. Do you think my son would hate his name?

We will stick to disposables, call me lazy...
Luckily my LG is busy potty training and will HOPEFULLY be of nappies before new babs is born.

Karienh, I hope you didn't see my post as criticism... I basically meant to say this way or the other, it doesn't make a difference. Glad you are happy with your decision. And of course you do what works for you!

I have finally made up my mind about the cloth diapers - asking the question here motivated me to do my last bit of research and I have decided to go for cloth diapers and have even chosen the 3 brands we're going to use.

PhilippaJane and Rakker, I agree with you that cloth aren't that much greener than disposables, but I think cloth are the best way to go for us

I going to go for cloth because it's going to be cheaper. All the nappies will cost me under R3500. I don't pay water, but even with the electricity bill it will work out cheaper. I think. Detergent will cost something but you use very, very little detergent for the diapers. I will use use cold water so that won't take extra electricity and you only need to flush soiled diapers. And the diapers don't need to be soaked before washing, they're just placed in a bucket.

Compared to the constant manufacturing of disposables and their packaging, the chemicals used, transport costs and landfill space, I feel better about the cloth.

And lastly, the cloth ones are really really cute. There's even black ones - which I love

That said, if I wasn't going to be a SAHM, I wouldn't even consider using cloth. I just don't know where you'd find the time for the extra washing and drying.

And like MsDee said, everyone has to do what works for them.

Wow, you chatted a lot! But I guess the main thing was nappies?

I have actually read somewhere that cloth can be more expensive io the end. If you calculate water, electricity, labour, soap, ect. I will just go with what I am used to, and use disposables.

Has any of you ever thought about it this way: Would you want to use washable pads during your period? Just a thought I just came up with!

A long day ahead. Have to bake 2 cakes for my sons bday on monday. Get it into the freezer. Quickly clean the house. Get son from school, and go to the shops. Make sanwiches for tonigts singsong. We are sleeping over, and have a braai tom night, so I can only ice cake sunday morning. Busy busy day! Wish I could get a maid! But ja, not in my budget this year.

Solo - Yeah on babs being all healthy! and a LB! Happy for you! Now enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Sorry, will try to catch up on the rest when i have time. Was on holiday and it was bliss! Just whish it didn't end.
