Vix - just heard you saying to Helen that she shoulnt schedule her c sec too far in advance and i agree with that, if you decide you need to go that way - wait for dilation or labour pains etc as more "ready" baby is the better the time you will have with baby after birth health wise, Then in the next sentence you say you will schedule twins coming out at 36 weeks so that babys are born with your gynae safely?? Vix, there are INCREDIBLE gynaes out there and you do have options, please consider taking them out as late as they will allow? and you know i dont judge but you have the same opinion as me on this, so just wanted to see your thoughts on this? My Gynae is incredible for example, and Im sure that others closer to you can get brilliant OTHER gynaes if yours isnt around?
Mandy- i want to reply to you before i set off on my day because i don't want to forget but also i don't want to spend the whole day stewing over this topic.
You should firstly know that as i read your comment i didn't immediately see red like i probably would normally do but was a little irked by it.
I'm going to try to reply in order of your comments so as not for forget anything important.
Firstly my suggestion to Helen to not have a C-sec scheduled too early was mainly one to try and allow her time to go into natural labour if she felt her gynae was pushing for a C-sec over her wishes. It was not one to make sure baby was 'ready' to be born.
I never went into natural labour but at 39w2d C was more than ready to be born which one could see by the major calcification on the placenta and very low liquor volume. Sometimes babies are ready before the body will go into labour.
I have never 'scheduled' any date for the birth of the twins, you might in fact remember me saying that my gynae refuses to 'schedule' C-sec in advance because he feels they should stay in as long as possible. I would like them to come before my gynae goes on leave in my 36th week.
Many twins born even as early as 35w are strong enough to go home with their mother on the 3rd day, and on the other hand many who are even born as late as 37/38w (considered full term for twins) are not strong enough to go home at the same time as the mother and spend some time in NICU. It depends from baby to baby and that is something one will only know once they are born.
The next point is that IF i make it to 36w without having gone into labour that is already a HUGE achievement in itself. So many twin mommies go into labour or have complications before 36w that lead to prem labour so this debate in itself maybe pointless.
I agree there are 'incredible' gynaes out there but they are very few and far between and certainly not here by me, i refuse to go to the closest hospital because the nursing staff are just inadequate and the other gynae at my hospital is even more inclined to take babies out way too early. I cannot afford to go driving around the whole of JHB to another gynae if i go into labour. And if my babies are born prem and have to be in NICU i will have to drive every single day accross the whole of JHB to see and feed these babies at the same time as caring for a toddler. Practicality does play a huge roll at this stage. I have no one to drive me around after the birth because DH still has to work and i have no family close by.
Twin pregnancy carries many higher risks on it's own without the extra complication of both babies laying completely breech and then of course the rhesus complications and my hypo-tension. I will be loosing a lot more blood with a twin birth and that coupled with the complications of extremely low BP is a serious concern.
I need to feel in control of the situation and to not know my gynae is a huge issue for me. I trust him with the life of myself and my children and that is something i do not easly do, he has earnt that trust over the past few years, having a new gynae for a max of a few weeks will just not be comforting enough for me.
Tell me, if Cam's creche was to close will you gladly leave him in the hands of a total stranger tomorrow? Well that's how i feel about the well being of myself and my babies. If i was having natural birth then i would be in control but I can't and therefore am placing all control in the hands of someone else.
Anyways, it's all kinda besides the point and I'm now getting worked up about something that didn't phase me this morning so I'm going to end the subject now before i get admitted for high blood pressure.
