Simone, (as far as I know) identical twins will always be the same sex because they come from 1egg and 1sperm which divided into 2 identical babies. And I think they usually also share an amniotic sac?

The kind of twins Ally has & Vix will soon have, comes from 2 diferent eggs fertilised by diferent sperm. Thus they can be a boy & girl (the sperm determines the sex) OR two of the same sex but not identical.
People on fertility treatment who has multiples conceive this way, more than one egg fertilised by diferent sperm. These babies are in diferent sacs.

Ally so is that how all twins come about....2 eggs fertilised at different times? I thought that the egg splits after it has met the sperm...or something like that. Or is that in the case of identical same sex twins?

Simone, my twins were different 'weeks' all the time with scans. It's because Abi was a bit smaller than Aidan and the machines can't pick up that it's twins. It just means the one twin is probably a bit smaller...might mean it's a boy & girl.
