Girly - when she was sick she just wouldn't stop crying.... wouldn't let me put her down or pass her to dad... just wouldnt quit...

as for the last weeks niggles the nurse at the clinic when i took her for her jabs suggested letting her suck till shes done and then giving her some formula, but i didn't wanna so i just hung in there till the milk came, my gp also suggestd that i let hubby suck.... apparently as they suck harder it makes the milk come waaayyy faster. but considering hubby felt the need to get out the bath when i started leaking i doubt he will be up for it!

I think the catheter is to make it go a little faster we were there for over an hour waiting for baby to wee and then she missed the bag... but then i realised how to hold her so the second time i popped a bottle in her mouth and she got it all in the bag.

I will be in Ceres from the 11 to the 14th with my hubbys grandparents and then with my grandparents in Bayside from the 14th to the 31st. Would be happy to join you.

And seriously just let her drink and relax... if shes still hungry she will feed more often... kaelyn sometimes has about 130mls in the dat and other times just 80 or so.... at night shes taking in about 180mls... I think thats why she sleeps so well.

We tried to address the MIL calmly and nicely with a little i am the mommy and its my choice regime, and it turned into a huuuge fight.... she just doesn't listen. but anyhow if it doesn't come right in the new year and she refuses to butt out of our choices then i think i may be looking for a creche or nanny. I cant leave baby there and not trust that mil won't take it upon herself to wean her or put sugar in her feeds or... do some of the awful things she has suggested thus far. She een is insistent on bathing Kaelyn... which means that instead of our routine of bath feed and 9 hours of sleep she will have her bath at grannys and probably her 9 hours of sleep too.... grrrrrrr. She seems to think that since shes babbysitting next year while i go back to work she can rule the roost. and when you chat to her nicely about not bathing she says yes but if baby k has a poo and gets all messy she will still bath her and they will play in the bath... and that we have to allow her to use her own discretion.
I think i am at this point ready to tell her you ether you listen to me or i take her to a creche... cept when you mention creche they immediately start telling me how a creche wont give her the attention they will and that shell get nappy rash coz they wont change her nappy and... i am really sick and tired of it all... hubby keeps telling me to let it be and relax... and that if she does these things with K then he will shout at her for me...

anyhow... we all have our struggles huh?

Kerry - your mother in law sounds HECTIC!! What does she mean you and her must discuss weaning!!?? How bizarre that she thinks you need to discuss something like that with her before deciding. LOL, my sister always tells her mother in law straight to her face: "Im the mommy, I make the rules" Sometimes I feel quite sorry for the woman actually because my sister has no "tact". We love her that way though.

Nikki, I think it will help if you put her in her high chair with proper support. I tried to feed Emily in her bumbo seat once and it only lasted 2 seconds - she feeds much better if I put her in her bouncer because her neck and head is fully supported so she doesn't need to concentrate on keeping that up as well - she can just eat.

Mommy2Monster - congrats on the weightloss - I was sooo good this weekend, very proud of myself.

Kerry you are very lucky with sleeping through.
Last night K woke for a feed at 3:30 after her last feed at 6:30pm so 9 hours which is a new record for us! But then she woke at 5:30 with a blocked nose. Took a while for the saline to work, and then she had a biiiig poo so I had to change her clothes. By then it was 6 so I fed her and she dosed off but we put her in her co-sleeper with DH hand on her chest and eventually she dosed off but was awake by 7:30 again.
Luckily it was DH turn and he took her till just before 9am and I got to sleep in.

K is fine in her car seat so havent felt the need to try her forward facing yet.

Hmm wander why doc would want to insert a catheter if there's an easier way. Did K have her niggly time when she had UTI?
That's the thing, I thought my milk was fine cause she was always gaining weight well. Apparently its probably just not flowing as fast as she'd like so she gets lazy to suck. But I am drinking eglynol, fenugreek and now started brewers yeast again and drinking as much water as I can manage - around 2l a day.

Yea Babysense also says 120ml/kg divided by amount of feeds a day. For her (5.1kgs) works out between 90-100mls/feed which is about what I express / what she'll take from an expressed bottle. Just no way of knowing with breastfeeding. I must say its been really tough though with her the last couple days cos of the fussiness / pressure to make sure she's drinking properly.

Kerry & Cape Town ladies - shall we arrange another meet for the week that Kerry arrives in Cpt? All in favour??? People start going off from the 16th so we can try for before then?

Yikes re MIL. I dont know how I would cope with the interference.
You'll prob eventually have to address it with her though? Otherwise she'll forever want to take over.

Nikki hectic night! Ive heard about a 4 month sleep regression. Hopefully you dont have that? I'm sure she'll sleep well after her busy day. We definitely cannot take K out like that during the day. She really struggles with overstimulation and takes in absolutely everything!

We bought K a bumbo seat to help her with that too, she keeps herself upright for a bit but eventually starts leaning off to the side. But she def cannot keep herself upright without some back support.

Girls I'm feeling so soppy today. I guess I am just remembering the rough start and get so fearful that something will happen to our little girl. I look into her eyes and just love her so much. So the thought of losing her really gets to me.

DH spent some lovely time with her today. She just loves her dad so much, was talking away while sitting on his lap and laughing and smiling at him for ages. She doesnt give me the same kind of response so I get a bit jealous, but just watching the two of them together my heart swells with joy.

hmmm, girly, babyk's mom... i see your little ones are now doing what Kaelyn did last week... she's finally sleeping through again... i eventually got tired of her antics though and gave her only the dummy until her usual schedule, it was a terrible night, but the next night she was right back to normal. not sure if it was coincidence or bttle of the wills but shes all better now.

i put her in her pram facing forwards all the time... she just won't stay in the car seat... hates it with a serious passion... but plays so nicely with a toy bar in the pram...

Babyk's mom i would love to meet, live in jhb south, but going on holiday to cpt on the 11th till new years day and then going back to work on 10 jan... youre welcome here anytime

Girly kaelyn had a uti.... they just put a baggie in her nappi and she weed into it... no catheter... lots of patience tho. and k did the niggle thing youre describing last week... i also had to increase my breastmilk... expressed after every feed... and between feeds... it helped.

Mommy2j.... if it really gets bad, go to your doc & get an egglynol script.... it will help calm you and increases breast milk too... my aunt was on it with her two gals.

Girly - My book says its 120ml of breast milk per kg... and for formula 150ml... well i have read that in a few places... hope that helps? also Kaelyn was fussy on the one side too, for a month or so... we just sorta worked through it... if it helps maybe express the other side between feeds and give her that after putting her on the fussy boob?

Wow... i think i should check in more often.... though i am coming to visit you guys in CT in a few short days... just gotta get through k's christening. its a touchy thing coz my mil is sooo jealous when shes around i get daggers if anyone including me holds my baby... she even bout my baby a christening gown and got all upset when i said it was the wrong size and i wouldn't use it... it looked like a 6-12 month gown and K just turned three months on friday. but i guess thats my issues to deal with... its just sooo getting on my tits...

She even keeps telling me we must discuss weaning..... erm.... my baby, my choice?

Sorry about the BF issue Girly, I hope you come right with that. Last night wasn't too great, she got up first at 20h30, then got up screaming at 22h30. I moved her to my bed and was asleep instantly. DH spent another night on the couch.

Deceided to move campcot back to my room until she sleeps through the night, much easier for me as well to attend to her at night.

Wow M2M, your LO has a good appetite, so nice that he eats and drinks so well.

P now sits unsupported but on her hands she pushes them against the floor to support herself. She looks so cute doing it. Poor little chicken was out most of the day so hardly got her usual long daytime naps. Just the few in her car seat and one in Spur don't know how she slept through that noise!

She didn't take in much of her cereal today and I stopped after she starting fussing, I want her to enjoy eating and not see it as something she is forced to do.

Hoping she sleeps well tonight, mommy desperately needs sleep

Just woke from a shorter nap than I was hoping for. K woke up crying and I just hope the teething isnt back already. We only just got over the first of it. K sitting with daddy watching tv now but still not entirely happy.

M2M your little one has a big appetite hey! The milk sounds right - paed says 750mls milk a day but I dont know what that's based on?
Good luck with the teething. It has not been easy for us.

Nikki how did last night go? Our room is on the other end of the house from K's and her room is 'on the road', so I am reluctant to move her yet. She is waking once at 2am / 3am and again around 5/6am for food and then either wakes up completely or goes back to sleep (with much effort) till 7ish. She will keep me awake if in another room cos I'd have to go check on her from 5am making sure she's sleeping. She doesnt like to lie awake alone. So until she's sleeping soundly after 5am / sleeping through till 5 or 6 I think she will stay in our room. Luckily no snoring issues with us
I'm still unemployed but need to be earning an income again by end of March at the latest. I dont want to take any chances though so aiming to start on 1 Feb again. Its really difficult to plan any daycare cos I have no clue as of when I will need it nor where I will be working (will determine where I decide to send her) so I'm kinda stuck in finalising all of that. I may share a nanny with another moomie mom but she's back at work from Jan so not sure how that'll work logistically. It just seems a better option than going to a daycare with 6 other babies.

Charnenay amazing that its been a year already! Happy conception baby Emily! This weekend a year ago we went away to Robertson and conceived our little girl And we found out about it on 9 December - a whole 4 days before AF was due!

M2J shame hun. Its really tough when they are niggly Seems our baby's are all going through something lately. Hows the sleeping in her own room going? I have to take Eglynol to keep my moods at bay, esp the last 10 days or so we've had a really rough time.

Breastfeeding mums do your babies ever go 'off' one breast? Since Friday she is especially fussy on my left breast every single time and I have no clue why or what to do about it?
I'm so frustrated today that I start thinking maybe I must just start her on formula cause I'm so worried she's not getting enough in and that way I can monitor that.
Think I will take her to b/f consultant this week to get some help / encouragement.

just a quick post

charn i lost 1.2 this week YAY!!! and hubby lost 1.4

liam's feeding so oulikies!!! i think he eats all say in MAX 7 mins. he eats 3tsp cereal mixed with milk - then its alot, donno how much. and he cries if we take to long to give him the next spoonful LOL and he drinks at least 6 150ml bottles a day. his night routine is back to normal. so night he sleep through and others he wakes once round bout 2:30. AND he is awake and quiet/playing/chatting with his mobile in his room from 06:00 in the mornings.

and i think he is starting the teething thing...gums are all of a sudden bumpy and his tummy is bit runny...and he mouths everything
