Hey ladies

Ok, so today was a good day again :) YEAH!!!!! No more crying from 4 -7 yesterday or today. What a relief!!!! I bought the colief and have it ready just in case, but hopefully I wont need it. It was soooo hot today, I felt so sorry for her because it was obvious that she was uncomfortable. Spent the day yesterday and today at my sisters place because dh was working and it just seems better when you have someone to talk to :) My sister has a 9 month old and a 4 year old (HANDFUL!!!), so she can't really help me too much with Emily but at least it's company and her dh took Emily for a bit as well. Best part is that I get cooked food for myself and dh and I don't need to lift a finger :P

As least my nights are fine. She goes to sleep at 8 every night and sometimes wakes up once between 2 and 4, but most nights she sleeps through until sometime between 6 and 7. DH sometimes gets up if she wakes up between 2 and 4 though.

Girly, I either put 2.5ml's of gripe water in 50mls of water and keep the one water bottle for the whole day and she usually finishes it by the end of the day, or I just give her plain water and she usually drinks about 30mls for the day if it is just plain water without the gripe. I am sure you can keep the tea bottle for the day as well or at least for a few hours. Also, don't boil the water right before she needs the feed, as long as the water has been boiled its perfect, so you can boil it in the morning and give it to her hours later, no harm at all. Room temperature feeds actually reduce cramps, warm or too cold feeds can aggrevate the tummy and cause cramps.

Took Emily for her 10 week vaccine on Friday and it was TERRIBLE!!! :( I saw that needle going in and I felt soooo bad :( She pulled the saddest face and started screaming - I HATE Vaccine time. I actuallty told dh that it was his turn to go in with her, but I couldn't stand outside while she cried so I went in with her again :( not nice.

Anyway, she is growing nicely and they are very happy with her weight - she is 5.6KG's now and she will be 11 weeks tomorrow. Apparently her height is way, way above average though, but I forgot to ask what the measurement was. Dh's family is very tall though.

Hope everyone is doing good and that your LO's are growing nicely.

Hi girls

quick pop in

Charnenay how was tonight? Hope it wont last too long for you and that your angel will be back soon.

Jeanine keep an eye on the blocked nose. maybe its change if season? i use the aspirator on its own or with the saline solution.
Re the pump - I heard the avent manual one is quite nice so maybe if you dont want to spend too much on a new one thats the way to go? I've only expressed by hand once, and that was to relieve the start of mastitis. What a mission and the milk goes everywhere!
What are you doing re your boys care once you're back at work?
Stunning re the long sleeps!

Wow K is still swimming in a lot the 0-3 month stuff but by end of next week the newborn will all be too small for her, possibly sooner. I find the Jet and Woolies clothes are smaller cuts so they fit, but the ackermans are miles too big and most of the clothes she has are from ackermans.

Judesmom - pigeon is what we're on - she refused Nuk, thankfully we had bought pigeon. It's got 'natural peristaltic action' which basically mimics the nipple. But I'm sure others do too.
I've heard a few moms recommend the pigeon ones as well.

Kerry you're very lucky that she puts herself to sleep. K has only ever done that once, that was yesterday, in her bouncer. But she was drowsy when I put her in there.
I'm using appolocol (local pharmacy mixture) - maybe I must try it with her tea time feed.
I find K gets very crampy at around 6am every morning. Like the whole night's winds are catching up. So she cramps in a drowsy state while I rub her tummy and hold my hand on it, for about 30minutes, and eventually falls asleep again for another 2 or 3 hours. The last 2 mornings we got out of bed when she wakes for her 10am feed. Bliss.

How many of you give your babies water / rooibos tea to stretch feeds? I was at paed on tuesday, and was concerned that she eats sometimes 2 hourly. He suggested cooled boiled water and to add some rooibos tea to give it some taste, as she may just be thirsty and not hungry so soon. I want to know how long I can keep a mixture for, or must I give a fresh mix every time I give it to her. Havent really done it since then, cos by the time the water cools she's crying away so I cave and give her boob, but dont want to have a cup standing too long with an old mixture in it.

Girly - she now feeds at 8, puts herself to sleep and sleeps till one, then up again at4... and if i am lucky sleeps again till 7. :-) its great! also only 1 poo a day... just before her 7:30 bath... her eyes are still dark blue, but i think theyll go brown. oooh and did i mention shes taken to the dummy? Mam/avent dummies... was nuk, but she went off that.

Kaelyn is in 0-3 already... the newborn fitted to last week ish... but i find the 0-3 month stuff is easier to get on now. oh and hello kitty was from edgars... they have some nice stuff. but its 0-3 month... sorry

Girly I put the swing in the bedroom when we go to bed that way if its a real bad night i can just leave kaelyn in the swing... mind u since weve been doing that we havent needed it!

Judesmom - i express a bottle of my milk a day for hubby to take a feed and been having bottle games... she doesnt like nuk or avent - loves pigeon (i got one free with my bottlewarmer) but i found out they arent BPA free - so moved on to MAM.... seems to like that... milk needs to be just warmer than room temp tho

Charnenay - Try giving colief only for the feed before happy hour - it helps alot... just for a day or two

Hey ladies.

Hope everyone is doing good. I now have what I think is a colic baby :( She cries non stop from 4-7PM everyday for the past 3 days :( not fun at all.

Jeanine, re blocked nose. I also put the saline drops in her nose and use a nasal aspirator to get out some of the goo. Also, I mixed a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of puma balm with vaseline and I put a tiny, tiny amount of that under her nose when she sounds blocked up. Works wonders - I know we are not supposed to be using puma balm yet, but the clinic sister said that if I mixed like 5% puma balm with 95% vaseline ,it should be fine. I can't even really smell the puma balm but apparently they can.

As for the clothes - YIP, Emily is mostly wearing 3-6 months. There are still a few things that she can wear which are 0-3 but not much. I have already packed alot of things away for baby number 2.

Hi Ladies

Spent last week visiting my parents - they really enjoyed having Willem there (Its no use even pretending that its ME they wanted to see ;) )

Girly - the pump I have is quite old, one speed setting only - been expressing by hand instead. Bit slow, but much better. I only need to do it occasionally for now - but will see what i do once I go back to work

I need to go back in December - and we don't close for Christmas :(

Newborn clothes  I started dressing Willem in his 3-6 month vests today!! The 'outfits' he still wears 0-3 months, but anything tight fitting is too small...
He was 5.5kg and 57cm at 6 weeks (7weeks 5 days today)

Guess I was lucky with Willem - I popped a dummy into his mouth, and he sucked. I popped a bottle into his mouth and he drank ;)
Must add, he has cheapy dummy, and NUK - and he definitely prefers the NUK.
When he spits it out, I just put it back, and press it against the top of his mouth, till he sucks.

He is still sleeping well, most nights between 5-7 hours, and 3-4 hourly feeds during the day.
He just seems to have a horribly blocked nose the last few nights - usually around 2am... He doesn't quite wake up, but he cries a bit, and I usually have to wake up to pop the dummy back in. During the day it seems better.
I've been putting saline drops in, but not sure what else I can try.

Location: Johannesburg
Willem born: 20 Aug 2010
Emily born: 5 March 2014

Hi girls

It's 4:30am and Ive been awake since 2:30 :(
Hopefully the rest of you are getting more sleep than I am.

K is 8 weeks today. I thought by now their sleeping at night would lengthen a bit. But we have 3hourly at night and 2hourly during the day. Its a bit much for mom, as it means no naps for me during the day (she's awake an hour, then fights her sleep for 30mins, then only sleeps 30mins and awake for her next feed again).
Today was blissful as she slept a lot more, but I was worried about her being so sleepy that I couldnt rest myself.

Charnenay did you ever order pics from her in the hospital? It's been 8 weeks and I still havent received mine? I am gonna phone her tomorrow.
R450 is not bad at all. Let me know how it goes please. I might consider it.
We are going to do a family shoot in November, once K is laughing and smiling easier. Have ordered a christmas outfit for her for the day and we're going to make christmas cards for everyone this year with a family pic on it. Then she can also wear the dress on Christmas day :)
We also have a pirate halloween outfit. Although we dont really do anything on the day, we'll go out somewhere and dress her in it.

Blessed so nice to see you online!
Wow 9 weeks hey! Your little one is a big, tall baby! Tall like mom & dad :) K was 54.5cm now at 7.5 weeks, so she's also looking fairly tall - none of us are, but DH sister is quite tall so maybe she got her genes.
I'm so glad your mastisis was sorted out quickly and that the gynae took quick action. And I'm glad you are still expressing. Have you ever tried to latch him again?

KerryA - wow overslept! Am I jealous now or what! But thats so cool for you. Hope its continuing? They say around now they should start dropping their late night feeds so sounds like that's what's happening. On a normal night I can also feed and burp K without her waking up, and she doesnt seem to get many dirty diapers at night anymore, so its max 20minutes and then back to sleep, just not tonight.
Your little girl is gorgeous! I love the hello kitty dress. Where did you get it? By the way, (sorry that I cant remember) what's her name? It looks like she's also got dark eyes already. K's eyes are already showing a browny (sometimes green) colour. I have brown eyes and DH has olive green.

Jeanine K hows the expressing going?
As Kerry says, make sure you start with the pump pressure at its lowest. Then gradually increase it till you can feel it pulling well into your breast but not hurting. There's no need to have it on max pressure / speed. Once your let down is in, it will feel better too. Let us know how it goes please.

How many of your babies are still in newborn clothes? The woolies newborn stuff is now mostly too small, but ackermans stuff is bigger so it still fits. But the ackermans 0-3 she just swims in it. Its quite sad actually because we will not get much use out of many of her 0-3month stuff as its all winter clothes, really warm fleecy outfits. Also means the 3-6month summery stuff we wont get much wear out of. Such a pity as there is some really nice things out there!

When does everyone go back to work? (Dreaded question!)
I still need to find a job. The package I received allows that I can be home till January, but that's still around the corner! I am waiting for a tax issue to be cleared, and if it gets cleared I could stay home till March! Here's holding thumbs!
But I also have to be realistic. Some of the industry jobs, if offered, I may need to accept sooner for sake of securing a job. I started emailing some of the companies today. I'd like to secure it by November.
Cant arrange daycare for her until I know where I'll work. Most likely it'll be in town, so may have to find one closer to work as I would only get home past 6pm and most of these places close at 6. The alternative is to share a nanny with someone. It looks like that may just be an option which I stumbled across today. But the 'when' I would only know once I have secured a job.
What will you all do about daycare? I really dont want her in a creche.

Anyway, I have a sleeping baby now, (that swing is a lifesaver for my arms!) so going to try get her into her cot now and then hopefully some sleep for me. Although not much I expect, since she fed 2.5hrs ago, and going by her 3hr feeding schedule sleep does not seem to be on my side tonight.
