Hello, thanks for postiing that response Bronz, have no idea why it didnt display??

James is 5 months, 1 and a half weeks and is not interested in solids at all. He is happy with milk for now. His weight gain did plateau a bit between 4-5 months, but my clinic sister says its considered normal in breastfed babies, and that as long as they are still thriving and having plenty of nappies it doesnt mean that they need solids. My BF consultant said the same thing (in fact my mom started me on solids at 4 months because my weight gain plateaud and it made no difference to my gain), so I'm not fussed about pushing to start solids.
I had him at the docs yesterday for the first time though. He broke out in a rash on tuesday, which I thought might be a heat rash, but when it hadnt gone away I thought id better check it out.. Anyway he has roseola, which is why he had the temp and cold last week (the spots come out later) Nothing I can do except wait for the rash to go, but the doc warned me that James might get irritable because he is itchy. So far he has been okay, but I have calomine lotion incase:)

I have been exhausted the last few days. The hospital has been hectic busy, so thank goodness James has bee sleeping well because I dont know how I would cope if e wasnt!

Hello Ladies!
Hope you are all well. Been trying to check in on this thread but it's been hectic. LOVE all the photo's - your kiddies are gorgeous!

Little Lia is doing great - she has been sitting since just past 5 months and she turned 6 months last week and can sit for about 10 minutes sometimes longer playing with her toys thrashing her arms about. Too darn cute. I started her on solids at 5.5 months - tried the rice cereal which seemed to irritate her tummy at first. She now eats a mix of BLW style foods (she loves whole brocolli, it's her favourite) and slightly mashed veggies ( just use a fork so it is still chunky) then cereals like weetbix, baby cereal or normal oats. She doesn't eat great quantities of solids but is showing much more of a liking to them every day. Sleeping is irratic - wakes betwee 0-2 times a night generally and I let her drink when she wakes up.

Regarding being a "big baby" my son was 10kg's at 6 months and that was when I started solids with him - which never helped with his sleeping at all - Lia was about 9kg's when I started solids with her at 5.5 months. For the first year the most important part of their diets is actually the milk so chances are starting solids will probably not help them sleep better either. First two nights of rice cereal Lia woke up 3/4 times... ugh, slightly constipated and then went back to her usual routine, at this age her brother was waking up almost every hour due to teeth coming out so for me waking up once or twice a night is really not bad.

I'll pop in and upload a pic when I get a chance to upload from my camera.

Take care guys and chat soon!

Emily slept through like a champion until two weeks ago and now she wakes up anytime from 1am and onwards. Dreamfeeding is when you don't wake them up to feed. Basically i'm just going to shove the bottle in her mouth and hope like hell that it works until morning ;)

You're so lucky that you can hit the books. I'm going to have to take leave to do that! When do you do your drivers? From what I hear the testing stations in Joburg are an absolute nightmare, with the systems being down and general chaos all-round. I think you must definitely take your son with you to the test. He'll charm the socks off the instructor if she's a woman and if it's a man he'll feel obliged to let you pass.

Hi ladies

Glad to hear that everyone's little ones are getting cute :)

We used to dream feed Katie - literally pick her up while she was sleeping and stick a bottle in her mouth. She's happily drink and then we'd hold her over our shoulder for a few min to help and winds and then go back down. She hardly ever woke up and, if she did, she's fall right back to sleep. She'd sleep 3 hours, then dream feed then 9 more hours. I stopped it last week and now she's sleeping 11 hours without waking. FABULOUS I tell you!

@Bronz: Good luck with the studying! I'm amazed at women who can do anything while they have little ones. I have a new found appreciation for my mum :)

26 April was the date my life changed forever - I heard the sound of Katie's voice for the first time.

Just want to say congrats Pinky. She is too gorgeous and I love the pic in the competition.

G is asleep in his cot, and slept till 2 again last night. Must have been having some sort of spurt, I was engorged which I wasn't before at 2. Seems to be going back to normal. YAY.

Scribbling: By dream feed you mean waking her up for a feed? Has E slept through?

Hitting the books today. :( Exams and drivers coming up, dont feel like either but must!!!

Finally! Wasn't able to log in yesterday.

Claudia_B and Bronz, it looks like our little ones have been communicating on ways to hold their parents hostage. Tonight i'm going to do a dream feed!!! Was going to do it last night but of course I was too tired (lazy) and she woke up at 1am again.

Pinky well done on the sitting!! What a big girl! A swede is like a turnip and a parsnip is like a white carrot thing. That Annabel Karmel book was written for UK parents so it's difficult to find some of the veggies here. I've seen parsnips at Woolies, but I don't think I've ever seen a swede.
