I got an sms just before 7 this mornign and I jumped up hoping it was news on Emsmom, but blegh.. just a boring Vodacom one

Emsmom, great that they are leaving you to go by your own pace. Just keep doing those slow breathing and visualitation (sp) That slow breathing works a bomb to help the surges work! Thinking of you and cant wait to hear from you xxx

Meags, I had a S&S with my son at 39wks. It was just like a very uncomfortable internal.. maybe a little bit sore but not horribly. In fact, the internals I had while in labor with R was much worse! But then I must say that I had lot of funny niggles after the S&S but nothing happened before I had the induction about 1/2week later. So its not a sure thing that it will kick things into action. Ask your midwife's opinion on it and see how it goes on Thursday?

Ive heard of lots of babies that dont engage much before birth.. ask around on the moomie fb site or somewhere and see if there are other moms who had same situation?

Claire, shoo BH for so long must be hectic! Were you worried or did you know its only that? Hope the day goes by quickly so you can go home and take a nap

Cath, I dont really look at the watch (prob because I can barely open my eyes from tiredness ) But I would say all in all it takes about an hour, sometimes hour and a half. I first give him breast, one side until he becomes snoozy or stops drinking. Then I burp (or try to, he is very hard to burp!) and give him same breast again, wich he normally doesnt really want then. Then I do nappy and burp (try) again. Then other breast until he falls asleep. I burp halfway through that breast too. He doesnt always fall asleep, so then I just wrap him and put him in his bed. He normally at night goes straight back to sleep. He doesnt do that during the day!!

Great on the good weightgain!! I cant wait to go weight R on Friday.. soo curios.. I think my scale at home is inaccurate so not going to go on that.

Reuben slept his first 6hr stretch last night But then he was so hungry he was gulping milk like a madman.. so needless to say we were up again in 2hrs time burping and moaning and farting.. oh my word he has been farting out all those winds the whole morning!! He actually woke up his big bro with his farts

I keep forgetting to tell you about my interesting little experiment the other day. So my first boy never wanted NUK bottles and took to Pigeon perfectly. So this time round I was hoping R will take to NUK as I like them more.. and his dummy is NUK!!? So first time I gave him a bottle was the Pigeon and he drank perfectly, no hassles. So the other day I gave him 50ml EBM from the NUK. He as dummying teh bottle for about 10mins and didnt drink one drop!! Then I put the milk over to the pigeon and low and behold he gulps it in seconds!! Very very interesting!! Seems that either he doesnt like the NUK nipple, or it resembles his dummy too much? So Pigeon once again it will be

Cathm I was just about to say, I've never had any BH and wondered if that was normal. Maybe my body knows I don't need to prepare for birth since I'm having a C sec or it figures I have enough dramas with the pelvis pains.

Emsmom, can't wait to hear what's happening with Spec! I still think it's a boy... Can't believe how lucky you are to be in labour a WHOLE month early!!! Wish that would happen to me, then at least my little elephant might be closer to normal size.

Meags, I SO agree with you on being irritated with these idiots telling you to relax and enjoy the pregnancy! Don't they understand that we just desperately want to meet our little angels now?! Last night DH and I were chatting and he was saying how he can't wait to see A's little face. I really can't wait to meet him anymore, see his little face and tiny hands and feet and to be able to hug and kiss and smell him!! I'm so in love with him as it is, I keep on staring at my tummy in awe every time he kicks and stroke it as I'm sure he can feel that, as he does respond often when I do it.

Kimika you're right, being a family of 4 just sounds so perfect! I've pretty much set my heart on having another little one after A. I just hope I don't battle to conceive again, but I'm sure it won't be such a drama as the first one, seeing that my "factory" knows how to make babies now.

Oh and I took Wililam to be weighed yesterday - last Monday7 March he was 3 kilos (2.5 something when he left hospital on the 24th Feb) and yesterday he was 3.3 kilos!! YAY! Nurse was v pleased and I was delighted cause I thought he was lokoing a bit thinner and was a bit worried! Thanks God for the weighing scales!

Faw thanks for lovely long update. You sound great!!! So nice your mom is such a wonderful support to you. Your new little one is sooo gorgeous and your first born sounds like he has the most lovely nature too! You should be ok to drive in 2 weeks if everything progresses normally ... but...check your insurance policy!! Some say 6 weeks otherwise no cover!!!

Everyone have a gorgeous day! William was a superstar last night - fed him from 20h45 - 21h45 (breast and bottle top up) then he was up at 2am then at 6am! What a champ hey!!!!

Quick question: how long are your feeds??

I do breast first then bottle as top up...and my feeds are about an hour long - that's the changing, burping, fetching the stuff, warming up etc etc etc At 2am W was up for a good hour and half couldn't settle didn't mind was happy to take the time so that by the time I put him down he's very happy to go sleep!
But what is the 'norm' re timings of feeds - in general? Just want to get an idea please? Like what time typically does it take from beginning to end and if after the feed he or she isn't settled do you stay with them til they're ready to be put down? That seems to be th enatural/right thing to do just wondering if that's other people's experience too? E.g. W was on my chest snoozing for a good half an hour last night at about 3am before i put him down and that seemed to work. also i don't feed him in one go - i give him the breast for about 15 mins then i do bottle in relays - like he drinks about 50ml or so then i burp etc then anothe 25 and 25 etc I'm following the measurements on teh nan bottle as per advice from the hospital so now it's 150 ml water with 5 scoops nan.

Meags - Its always so strange to wake up here in the morning and thik that its 2am your side... I hope you had a better day yesterday and ignore some ppl on FB - ha ha ha of course you want your baba out now- you have known for a good 36 weeks already that he is on the way and thats a loonnngg time. good luck with all the cooking - you will be thankful later that you actually did it

Congratulations H-Buzz- 2.27kg is so small but actually a fine weight to bring home and they do gain weight so fast!

Em's MOM- wow,yay, today is the day! Can't wait to hear the sex! I hope your birth goes according to plan, sounds like the staff is nice and relaxed at your hospital.

Meags- If there is one thing most irritating to a heavily pregnant mom, especially a first time mom it's being told to 'relax and enjoy what's left of your pregnancy' I hated it but the second time around I swore I wouldn't be so eager but you know what, I got so sore again I was wishing the weeks away. Just ignore those people, don't even reply to them.

Completely off subject cos I forgot and I know this isn't thr right place to post it but I'm on my phone and can't be bothered to go search for the topic, here's that pastry recepie:

Short crust pastry, just enough for 1 flan dish:

250ml/1cup of Cake/plain flour
5ml/1teaspoon of Baking powder
Pinch of salt
60ml/ 1/4 cup butter or Margarine
1 egg yolk
30-60ml /2-4 tablespoons of Iced water

Preheat oven to 220'C
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
Work the butter into the flour with finger tips until the mixture is completely blended and resembles coarse mealie meal
Beat the egg yolk, add 45ml of iced water and cut this into the mixture until just blended, do not knead the dough.
Roll out on flour or press into a greased pie dish.
Cut off excess pastry from top edges of pie dish.
Bake for about 10 min until golden brown.

Well I'm still here, not much happening. Having regular surges and nurse says I'm not going home but still early so spec will most likely be an afternoon baby. I'm glad they are just letting me go at my own pace, but wish things would speed up a bit
