Meags, yeah everyone gains differently! With my son I hardly gained until about 25wks and from there it came quite quickly  If you just count the weightgain your poor bosoms make!!

Karin, Im sure the woolies ones are fine.. they are so diluted and only a certain percentage gets absorbed anyway and then only a bit of that goes through the placenta. I always try take the safer route and avoid things that can possibly be negative. So for you I would say drink those goodies but maybe only 1 at a time with a good interval with food inbetween ;) I also crave beer shandy!! Had a few sips of hubby's on Sunday and also I have a sip of his red wine too.. Im also a biig wine fan :) So for me the rule is if you really want that drink, try dilute it with sodawater/sprite zero or lots of water/ice. I would def not go as far as drinking a whole glass of wine or a beer.

Emsmom, its just so more fun spening 2 hrs atleast watching your girl practice! But I guess if you sit outside with a good book or something :) Or your laptop chatting to us!!! Enjoy your weekend!!

Mommy-jess, I guess you have to discuss it thoroughly with your partner and make a fully thought-out decision. Open a thread and ask the other ladies your question.. I remember quite a few ladies wondering the same thing. I would go along with the other ladies and say its safer to register baby in your surname, you can always change it later if you want. But I know with men there are ego's involved... ;)

Have a greak weekend everyone!! Ill be around as always :)

Thanx ladies for your input. :)

Mommy-jess - my two cents here.... My oldest, my girl was born out of wedlock. We seperated when she was 6 weeks old but unfortunately I was stupid enough in my emotional state back then to agree that she be registered in my boyfriends surname... Needless to say, when we seperated I was so unhappy and sorry that I did that. It took me forever to finally get him to agree on changing her surname so that it will be a combination of his and my now hubby's surname (which is mine as well of course). He had to approve and sign everything and it was a mission. Just keep that in mind.

Well, Im logging off early, need to finish some work then Im officially on weekend mode. :) Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!!

Take care of yourselves and your bambino's!

Karin-My mom's friend used to drink Amarula and the baby is perfectly fine and healthy. And a friend just told me that her friend used to crave milkstout(sp) and all was fine. But read more on down sydrommes as that's what dr's are scared of.With my LG I went on drinking spree before I knew I was preggies and she came out right,I just stopped the minute I found out.

Mommy Jess-My LG took my surname as DH and I were not married. It becomes a lot easier. My uncle's girlfriend gave her son his surname and now baby was sick and they needed his authorization and he said no.So do consider such disadvantages.

with regards to alcohol there are so many opinions!!!
Quite a few gynaes will say that one or two drinks here and there is actually fine. people go on and on about no sushi. my gynae said sushi is perfectly fine as if it's dodgy fish, I'll be sick before it affects the baby. so I've been happily eating it.
for me, I am choosing not to have any alcohol. but only because IF anything were to go wrong, I would put it solely on that and never forgive myself. but then again - one could say the same for sushi!!

mommy-jess. registering the name is a tough one...if you put it into his name and ANYTHING goes wrong and you seperate, he has to consent to put it into your name. I think for me, I would put it into your name and then change it into his once you are married. if you were to seperate and you got re-married to someone else, and current BF refuses to change the surname, your child will have his name and you will have your new man's name...
is there talk of getting married?

oh and I think Lucy asked about the sharp pain in the uterus when sneezing?? it's very normal. In fact, when I feel I need to cough or sneeze, I sit up and hold my tummy! You get those sharp pains as the ligaments stretch.

I heard that just a sip of alcohol at a critical time in baby's development (which I assume will be in first trimester) can cause big problems. Drinking beer with such low alcohol % can't be bad, can it? Especially now that you are past your 1st trimester.

Hey ladies

How are we all today?

Karin, everything in moderation is fine (except drugs...) I have the odd drink, savanna light or whatever. My Dr says its perfectly fine. Remember there is actually a higher alcohol content in gripe water than in most light drinks.
Red wine is also very good for the baby.
Dont get drunk, but the odd drink is fine. I did that with Em and she's a smart cookie :)

Kimika, mext year she starts with a new ballet teacher, I would never take her out totally. Anyways, I have decided just to keep her in, and will sit outside the classes in case she gets upset. I will explain to her teacher that I will be there, and she MUST call me if Em gets upset that I'm gone.

Momjess, its up to you. If you do get married it would be easier then for the child to have your partners surname, otherwise you will need to change it. You can register the child with either name.
I always joke that if my MIL says one more time that it would be nice for the Walsh name to be continued with us having a son, then I'll christian him Moore - which is my maiden name.

Meags, with water retention, near the end you may end up picking up more - I put on 20kg with Em, but as soon as I gave birth I lost 12kg of those. The rest comes off with breastfeeding.

Anyways, today we are off to the hot baths! Can't wait! And my Ouma will be there as well, haven't seen her since Em's birthday.

So just sorting out the house and packing to get all ready :)

hi Karen
My mom in law is a researcher and of course now that I'm pregnant is always researching the latest stuff available around pregnancy. The latest latest on alcohol in pregnancy is that it should be approached with zero tolerance. Not a glass, nothing. That's the research.
I haven't drunk alcohol for years so it's hard to think what I would do with that information - for example I was told no seafood but I had a prawn curry on holiday (DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!) and I have no doubt William was fine as a result.
All we can do is make up our own minds really. To thine own self be true! :) Remember on a message board you're going to probably get a lot of 'input' from people who a) you don't know and b) whose value system you really don't know so I'd take whatever you hear - including my input - with a big bag of salt! :)
Just do what makes you comfortable. Mother knows best! :)
