Went for a 4KM run this morning - very chuffed with myself DH surprised me with a new car for my bday, so just enjoying that for now - my first ever brand new car, have only driven 2nd hand before now! Officially 7KG's down in 4 weeks! 18KG's more to go.

I am suffering today - I cleaned out my closet the other day and I have quite a bit of perfume that I hardly ever use, so I decided to move them to the front of my closet for a bit so they were more handy. Anyway, decided to use my Lacoste "touch of pink" this morning. And 2 seconds after spraying, I realised that it was off!!! Had no time to re-shower because I was already late, so I just grabbed some wetwipes to try and get the worst off. Needless to say, it didnt really work and now I am at work smelling like a cheap perfume factory

Noooo! That's terrible. Your vegetable garden was looking so good. Was there a lot of damage.

Funny thing is that I haven't had bad reflux or back wash. Not lately, anyway.
I got he generic - Altosec - also have to be careful what I eat. Eat early and nothing after supper. From what I've read it is better not to operate. It can be managed.

Carmen-capi: Yes, I agree at least you know whats up. I am not sure what type of hernia I have but basically it causes gastric reflux. I have been on Nexiam for the past 12 years. Pricey, but not as much as Losec! I presume there is no generic for Losec. Nexiam's generic only came out 2 months ago. I have been to one of the best gastroenterologist and he refused to operate where most dr's just want to operate. He told me that the operation is often not successful and might have to be repeated several times and there is a negative side-effect of lots of gas (which for most women is a bit of a problem...). He told me my best bet is to change my lifestyle and accept that certain foods are problematic and I can't eat supper later than 3 hours going to bed. I can't drink fluids after a meal. Once I have made peace with this my reflux has become more manageable. Did the doctor discuss any long term plans?

I am fine thank you apart from a huge tree that fell on top of my vegetable garden.

GW - thanks. Yes, I had not considered a hernia. A shock yes, but a great sens of relief. I may have had the hernia all along, undiagnosed. More than 10 years ago while living in JHB, my GP thought I had a duodenal ulcer, but I had never had a scope.

He prescribed Losec. Which I used before. I really hope that this was the cause of the attack and that it was not due to something else. He did say that if I have an attack again I must go to ER and that the must call him.

But I am really happy to have some answers.

Carmen-capi: How are you feeling? I read on your other thread you have a hernia??
Does that cause gastric reflux too? Shame, I can imagine you are a bit shocked and relieved, good to know what caused it and a bit shocked to hear about the diagnosis. Are you going on Nexiam?

Carmen - thank you. I think it is best to rule out a gastrointestinal problem, at least that one is off the list then for a couple of years! Will be thinking of you on wednesday.

I have been saying that I want to go for accupuncture for a while now. I just wish I can make time for it. It feels as if it falls in the same catogory as going for a facial, although I know it is not - I just never get round to making an appointment!

Juno, did you go for the scan. Agree - hubby should go for SA before you spend more money.

I am considering accupunture .....
My gastroscopy is scheduled for Wed afternoon. Feel a little silly if it shows up as nothing, but will be good to eliminate a few possible causes.
