Yes let's not talk about snob factor. I wouldn't go to Dischem. Prevanar was still private then though and we were paying 1500.00 for each visit. I could have done way more with that money but I am pleased I had the extra's done.

julzdylan - I always went the private route, but this time around the price just sort of took me a bit by suprise.

So I really had to put my big-girl-panties on and do what needed to be done. Though I really did not want to go the government route (my snob factor ...)

But I was really suprised that it was not as hideous as I had imagined. I was really suprised.

There might be some that I might have to pay for, which the government schedule does not offer, but I will talk to the clnic sister when I go again with Isabelle.

I only paid R 80 consultation fee at Storks Nest for the 6wk, 10wk and 14wk injections. They were the government ones. I didnt want to go the private route as it was expensive. I did have to pay for the Rotavirus vaccine.

Even though the government ones should be free you still have an option to purchase extra vaccines that the government doesnt offer, like at 12 months, you have a chicken pox vaccine and something else for R 600 and others at 15months and 18months.

Clicks, Dischem, many pharmacys and Storks Nest has government vaccines for free but you will pay a admin cost.

Like Julz says, if you choose private you cant change to government later.

Thanks rm for that. I go to the PBFC but it is quite expensive. We started with privates (silly us) so we had to complete them.

I popped along to the Panorama Breastfeeding Clinic as I normally do for the 6 weeks ones, but the nurse was telling me the new schedule and when she told me the cost, I clearly gagged a bit.

She suggested I use a government clinic - and I gagged a bit more, as I assumed it would be yucky and dirty and just not good.

But financial pressure is a very unrelenting motivator. I went along to the Bothasig Clinic and did the 6 weeks injections there. It was really clean, really organised and I was in and out in an hour.

There were no side effects, Isabelle barely cried, and there was not charge.

I have taken her along there for the rest of her immunisations.

The only time I went when it was a bit chaotic was the period where they were doing the Measles and Polio Campaign, possibly not the best time to have gone.

But otherwise, it really was easy, efficient, and more importantly afforded me a little breather on the credit card.

Bundle what area are you in? I did pay around R400 for the 6 week ones because I went to the baby clinic at Milnerton MC. But the 14 week ones are the same and I didn't pay for those. I went to Sunningdale pharmacy and saw the Sister there. I can send you her details if you like. She is there until 7 some evenings.
