Desiree your lo is quite young so try and get a syringe and measure correctly. It is also easier to give from a syringe. The dummy medicine thingy is also great.

I'm taking Connor for his vaccinations at 8 weeks at the Baby Clinic at Olivedale hospital - a few weeks ago they were out of stock of the free government vaccinations, but I think they've received this now so I'm looking at a payment of about R600.00. When I took Connor for his 6 week paed visit yesterday, the Paed said if I was able to find a reasonably well maintained government clinic, fine, but otherwise to stick to the private Baby Clinic as they offer the 6-in-1 injection - seriously though, I'm clueless about all this so I'm just going on what he says.

He also said I could give Connor some calpol before and after the vaccinations - how do I give it to him? Spoon, medicine bottle? I'm soooo not looking forward to Connor having a fever...

My beautiful baby boy, Connor Troy, was born on 20 March 2010 and my 2nd gorgeous boy, Cullen Reece, was born on 2 September 2011 - I am very blessed indeed

Bundle, the Dischem clinics are VERY expensive! They charge R80 consoltation fee which your medical aid does not cover, and then they don't charge medical aid rates on the injections so you always have a co-payment. And they don't even give the gov vaccines for free!

Hi Bundle of Joy

I took my LG Thursday for her 6 week injections. It is the Gov once , our pharmacy has a clinic inside it , I just made an appointment and went there , I also weigh her there every two weeks. I did not have to pay for the injections I only paid R50 consultation fee.She got 3 injections and then had these drops in her mouth.

LG didn't really have side effect she only had a little fever the evening of 38.3 , and I just gave her 1.5ml Calpol as the nurse suggested that and she was fine.

Bundle there are government ones that they offer for free but with a charge to give the injection and then they offer the private options of the same vaccines which give fewer side effects and then there are private shots that the government dont offer. Does that make sense.

The private form of government vaccines are not free anywhere.

Thanx Julz

Ok will ask the pead. I would love to go to the Breastfeeding clinic for the vaccines, but they don't offer the private ones free so going to cost me around R1000. :(

Your paed will fill you in with all the details and so will justine. I took Dylan for the privates so they started at 8 weeks.

The prevenar is now free, but I think the Rota is private. Well worth it though.

Plattekloof aslo have a clinic sister and they are always quite.
