Juno, we will support the mom together with the doctors here to hunt the persons responsible for this down and make them pay. The ward nurses are trying to cover it up. We'll make sure it reaches administration. It's very tricky to give out names etc because of confidentiality issues. The ice is very thin as our NGO is only a "guest" in the hospital so we have to be very diplomatic.

Jems, that's very sweet, I'll check with my colleague but we are all pampering her already, no worries.

Yaz I have just received a reply from my friend - please let me know whether the mom would be prepared to talk..

As far as the nurses complaint goes, I have just asked a friend at the Argus whether they would be interested in the story. If she's not, I can try some smaller papers which I'm sure would like something like this as a front pager... will let you know what happens. Is the mother prepared to talk, anonymously if she prefers? In fact, def anonymously because of the child being underage (obviously).

If you want I can give you Theuns Botha's (western cape MEC health) number, email etc. A direct line to him might be of more help than going through the red tape.

This is truly horrific Yaz and if you feel that would not jeopardise your own position you should really take up the offers from the forum to go public (whilst remaining confidential) on this. Would you mind sharing which hospital: This should also be reported to the MEC for health who is ultimately responsible and who we cannot hold responsible if he/she is not informed.
