Ai Tinti. I would have been FURIOUS! I know in some cultures this is accepted behaviour. Maybe she didn't mean it in the wrong way but it is SO NOT ON!

I feel breastfeeding is a very intimate and bonding experience between a mom and her baby. I would FREAK OUT if something like this had to happen to me.

1 How did you catch her doing it

2 Do you have a husband/partner and if so, how did they react?

I agree with what Claudia has said. It's been explained to me like that a while ago when I did an article on it.

We are all here to support your through this ordeal.
3 Did your employer give you a few days off work at least?

1 my LG wakes up at 6 every morning so since its winter and cold, i normally take her to the nanny's room cos i didnt want her to wake up so early. my routine would be, i take baby, go to the kitchen and warm her milk and bring to the nanny but this particular day i had not taken my LB(2.7) clothes out the previous evening so DH calls me from the bathroom to bring LB clothes so i went to take LB clothes out to bring to DH so when i am done, i go to the kitchen to warm LG's milk and bring to the nanny. to my horror when i get to the nanny's room my LG's legs are in the air enjoying Breast milk from the nanny. i was like WTF is going ON??? my LG stopped BF from me at 4months because i had health problems that needed me to get on medications not suitable for BF so the fact that LG can still latch on the breast speaks volume

2 yes i am married and he wanted to moer her at the time but i didnt want him to get in trouble so i calmed him down

3 not yet i have applied for leave last week and i think i am gonna take next week since i am not fine at all

Oh me gosh, I would be livid.
The antiretrovirals have nasty side effects, so I wouldnt rush to put your baby onto them.
First I would speak to someone who knows the law and find out if you can demand that your nanny has an HIV test as well as a CD4 count if positive. This will determine wether your lg was even exposed to HIV and the viral load. If your nanny is negative then you can calm down a bit. If not you can choose a move based on the results.(in conjunction with a physician who specialises in HIV)(eg if your baby is normally on formula and not expressed breastmilk then it might be a good idea to take the drug, because formula causes micro bleed in the intestine and its this that is believed to be the reason why babys who are mixed fed are more at risk of the virus than babies who are exclusively breastfed (the virus seems unable to cross the intstinal barrier in babies with healthy GUTS)
(this could be opting for an antiretroviral dose - its been ages since I went on a course, so I'm sure Yaz or one of the other ladies on here is more clued up, but I seem to remember that there is a very effective drug which you only require one dosage of.... (I might be mistaken)

Another point to help maybe calm your nerves a bit is that my friend is a researched at the natal med school. Theyve recently finished a huge study where the breastmilk of hundreds of HIV positive mothers on ARVS was analysed and not a single one contained traces of the virus..

This is just SO wrong!!! I am so sorry that this had to happen.

I would find her and DEMAND she does a HIV test!!!! You need to find out if there is ANY chance of your baby being infected.

I really hope all turns out well. Please dont blame yourself.... no one would have EVER seen this coming!!
