@ 1st timer wgy hasnt your james had the measles vax?? My James got his at 9 months? Or do you not get it if you opt for the triple in the MMR?
I know 3 GP's who chose to not vax...Although 2 of them were for ethical reasons (certain vaxs contain human foetal cells which some religeous groups object to) (Jehovahs witness so they also wouldnt take blood or organs)
The last measles outbreak in Durbs, most the kids that got it had been vaccinated (so admittedly they were very mild cases) because vaccines are not 100% effective (eg the BCG only offers between 65 - 75% protection against TB).
Please note, that clearly I think vaccination is worth while and that I do not advocate not vaxing (especially in SA with the number of immunocompromised individuals), I just think - like with artificial colourants, flavourings, sometimes we put far too much rubbish into our bodies and that this constant push for the development of new vaccines is exposing our bodies to more and more foreign bodies.
Epecially in illnesses that dont cause mass problems in huge portions of the population. A case in point in a recent bulletin from the Health Professionals Council (we get regular magazines) MOST doctors do not get the flu vaccine,do not get it for their families, yet its marketed every year.
I dont think Docs make money from pushing vaccines - but I do think that because its a public health issue they are taught from day 1 to be pro vaccination and then dont take parents concerns seriously. Much the same as there are many doctors who still dont believe there is a link between some food dyes and behavioural problems.
