I think it depends on what type of person you are.
I have a domestic worker once a week to help with ironing window washing etc.. but I do all daily chores. James is a very alert baby and wants to be held up so he hangs out with me in his kango pouch. This way I can still wash dishes, sweep, dust etc. I've started doing pilates at home with my mom to get my tummy back and have a friend just down the road who I go for speed walks with for fitness (either with a pram or the kango pouch). My baby bag is permanently packed with spare nappies, change of clothes, warm jersey, blanket etc.. so when I need to go out I just plonk James into his car seat and grab the bag (breastfeeding makes this easier)
The only downside is loosing adult stimulation. I have joined a moms group and am doing some peer review work for junior physios to keep my brain active.
I dont think 2 years out of work has to look bad on your CV. I spent 6months travelling around the world and explained the gap as an opportunity to gain insight and understanding into other cultures. As a mom you are showing a dedication to ensuring your children get the bet possible start in life (studies show that children with moms at home are more confident as adults).
Incidently my mom had three children - Me, then 16months later my sister and then 2 years later my other sister, all while staying a home with no help and still managed to finish off her BSc and do a full BAcc through UNISA and went back to work once my youngest sister started preschool (in a better job - she worked as a bank clerk before I was born and went back as an accountant after her BAcc was finished)
