The first few months are mind numbingly boring !! You are sleep deprived and trying to do housework and all you can think of is baby, please, please sleep a bit longer so I can get a few moments shut eye.

Then suddenly they become mobile and you spend your days sleep deprived (unless you are lucky and have a baby who sleeps well), running after baby getting him out of all those bizarre corners they manage to get into, but can't get out of.

Then they start talking and you are exhausted by the end of the day, not because you had a bad night, but because of the constant prattle and the endless energy a toddler has.

Then the terrible two's start, and you fall into bed extremely tired and emotional cos you spent the day dealing with tantrums, frustrations, falls, etc

But for all this I love being a SAHM, I love watching the little acheivements, I love the fact that I was the one to put the first spoonful of cereal in his mouth, I love that I watched him pull himself up on the couch, I love watching him learn to calm himself down, to do his first puzzle.
I am able to watch all the firsts and for that I would not give up staying with each of my boys for the first 2 years of their lives.

Julz..that is so true..
4 months of maternity leave, and I knew I could never really manage being a SAHM.
Talk about learning to multi task, negotiate and prioritise. Its really not easy..nap time is freedom time..for at least 2 hours on a good day, but usually.. 30 mins only and you must still clean, and or iron and make supper.

I stayed at home for 3 years before our LG was born. But after B was born the only thought that stuck in my mind was how mundane it is. Every 4 hours the same thing, contantly keeping your eye on the clock. For me the moment B woke up the countdown to the struggle for her next nap would start.

In my mind I was just constantly counting (in hours and scoops) I use to hate routine so this is something that I really struggled with. To this day (10 months later) I have to sit in the same room with her, which would be great for you, the moment I leave the room she crawls after me crying but she's fine to play on her own while I'm in the room. So I have trouble cleaning the downstairs because there are places she can't go due to gates.

Upstairs is fine because I can close the gate and she can crawl everywhere I go but yesterday for example I set out 20 things to iron and after 10min she got bored and started tugging on the iron cord.

But for you that's still a couple of months away. I guess as newborns it's easier especially if you have a relaxed baby with very few problems. But they have the attention span of a fish, so it's really not that you can do more than a couple of minutes in the beginning while they are awake and hopefully your baby will be a great sleeper!

Got to go, mine is crying :(

Hi ladies

I know this is probably going to seem like a silly question but what is it really like to be a stay at home mom?

I have been home this whole year while being pregnant and I am due in under 2 weeks. The original plan was to stay at home until December and then start work in January but now DH has said I can stay home next year as well.

I am overjoyed but also a little nervous about being a stay at home mom.

I'm trying to complete my degree as well so I just want to know if I'm going to be able to juggle baby and studies. Obviously baby is more important but I don't want to be at home and not study - so many working moms do it, I should be able to do even more while being at home.

DH also thinks I will have time to "get my sexy back" - will there be time to go to gym during the day as well?

Also, does it look bad on your CV if you stayed at home for 2 years?

Thanks

Eve
