I ec'd with Rafe. It was great, I did it because it was easier and we knew from about 3 weeks when he needed to poop specifically. You need to spend alot of time with your child and not have issues with some cleaning up. And be realistic about what you are doing and why - they are not necessarily going to be dry very early - probably from about 18 months on they could be potty trained (very rarely earlier than that as they are not physically able before then to really go on their own).

The timing works well for routine type moms (I suck at this). Did not do it with Kara as it is not that easy with a winter baby and lots of layers of clothing, she also did not indicate like Rafe did so I would have had to using timing. It is not easy when you have more than your baby you need to focus on.

That said because of ec'ing Rafe I suppose I did approach nappying Kara a little differently too.

Both my kids were potty trained by 2. Kara was actually potty trained earlier than Rafe (but that is just to do with different stages and rates of ability development than that he was ec'd and she was not. Cloth nappying makes it alot easier. Disposables are kind of like an off switch to their brain - they know they dont have to worry when wearing a disposables.

I tried it. I came to a point where I 'caught' (not with my hand, haha) 4 - 6 pees a day and poo. It gets a lot easier after about a week.

I agree with Julz. Day cares certainly won't be doing this. And my mom and MIL who look after Troy won't either.

If I was a SAHM I wouldn't bother to be honest. WTH is the cue for a wee? Poo I can sometimes see coming. But not until they started solids really. Life is far too busy to watch for signs for an "elimination". Crikey. I'm all for going green but who has time for these things?

Potty training went ok for me but only started at about 22 months.

If I think how tough the first few months with a baby was, I can't imagine sitting and watching your baby the whole day for signs that the time is "now"? Maybe if you have like 3 nannies on standby, but no sahm will tackle this on her own? huh??

I have heard the most amazing stories about it. One mom said they had read about it but though no way and their newborn would not stop crying so the dad took off the babies nappy and held the baby over the washbasin in the bathroom and the baby peed and stopped crying!
