And the nice thing about muslin squares is that you don't only use them for those first 2 months. My son is now 2 years old and I'm STILL using them. The uses change as he grows, but they still get used regularly. Now with potty training they're floor wipes for cleaning up messes/accidents. At other times I've used them to clean other random messes. You could also use them to boost nappies if/when necessary as the child gets older.
They have loads of uses. Very much like terry toweling squares, but they're much softer and less bulky.

Those were born from WW in canal walk - they have a 'Mothercare" section (UK mothercare range).

I see bambino mio also sell muslin squares which i'm guessing you would be able to get from kids emporium amongst other places (possibly baby city too).

i can't remember the name right now but I only used it that once. i didn't like it. It was a sized cover, given to me by my cousin, but the velcro is very wide and very hard, it didn't fit him very well.

Huggles - curious, which cover are you using over the muslin square?

I haven't tried charlie banana, fuzzibunz or fancy pants, but cherub tree really do fold nice and small.

My son was born at 36 weeks weighing exactly 3kg. He fitted into cherub trees (folded over) from 5 weeks old:

Just two weeks later I no longer had to fold them over:
7 weeks

Another option for that first month or two would be a muslin square:

Jay - you can either opt to use disposables for the first few weeks or you can choose to buy newborn sized cloth nappies.

Keep in mind that one-size cloth diapers might only start fitting around 2 - 3 months, so weigh up the cost of disposables over that time vs the cost of cloth. You can cloth diaper a newborn for not a lot of money using receiving blankets and a few sized covers (check out the Hippie Safari fleece soakers on Doodlebums <-- not my brand, just same name as my blog). This is also an especially cost effective option if you'll be having more kids since you can then re-use it.
