I am not aware of any one-size (or birth-to-potty) system that actually fits a newborn baby. The ones that can size down the smallest are Fuzzibunz, Charlie Banana, Fancypants and Cherub Tree.

The problem is that newborns have very thin legs and you need a tight seal around the legs to prevent the runny newborn poo escaping the nappy - this is usually difficult/impossible to achieve with a OSFA nappy.

You might also be interested in a post I did comparing a couple of different brands of one-size nappies - some do run smaller or bigger.

hippiesafari.blogspot.com/2013/01/os-dia...size-comparison.html

Also have a look at the Doodlebums facebook page - they have a photo album with picture comparisons of the different brands, so you can get a feel for size, etc.

You can also check out the photos in the Newborn cloth diapering album on my Hippie Safari facebook page - there you'll see what I mean regarding the fit of OSFA nappies on a newborn (I used a doll).

Hope that helps.

Thanks hasie
Then i would need to get another type of nappy. I want a nappy that would fit from birth depending on baby weight. Maybe i would start with cloth a month after baby is born or even earlier if i can

Hi Jay, they are a bit big for newborn. I'm going to be using small covers with bamboo rectangles (dish cloths :woohoo: ) for my newborn and then go over to Snugglybum when they fit (should be around 3 months.)

Hi Hopeful,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! May it be a healthy full term one.

There are a lot of brands available these days.

For newborn you can use flats or prefolds and a PEP stores cover until your baby fits the "birth to potty training" modern cloth nappies. Read this blog for more information on cloth diapering a newborn:

hippiesafari.blogspot.com/2013/05/cloth-diapering-newborn.html

I use Cherub Tree, Bam+Boo, Econobum and Snappy Nappy on my two. There are A LOT more brands out there. I believe it is a personal choice. Each baby is built different hence a brand I love on my kids, might not work that great for you. Bam+Boo is velcro (which I dislike) but the absorption part is a natural fibre which is cool. It absorbs well! Some babies might react to natural Fibres believe it or not! The Bam+Boo nappy is a bigger cut than other nappies which is nice if you have a bigger baby or a baby who potty trains late (like mine).

My son pees a lot so the Econobums are like the workhorse of nappies but they can be very bulky on a small baby. The Snappy Nappy is a hybrid system and its the ONLY nappy that doesn't leave my daughter red in the morning after having the nappy on through the night.

I have an online store I bought at the beginning of the year www.doodlebums.co.za

Mother Nature has disposable liners which is the size of an A4 sheet of paper almost. You can fold it double and even reuse it a few times (by washing them first of course). I sell a "try me liner pack" which has a few samples of the various liners available so you can test them all to see which one you prefer on your baby.

I also have some Alva Baby nappies - great service from them. I haven't tried their liners. 1 microfibre insert is not sufficient for my son but is for my daughter. Their bamboo inserts absorb well.

Agree with theothermrsbell - it becomes addictive! :D

Enjoy doing your research. Pick two or three brands. Buy one of each, try it on your baby and then invest in a full time pack.

x

I wrote you an essay of advice and it didn't load.... argghh

so at some point i will rewrite my nappy using history but until then -

do it - cloth is awesome
PEP stocks nappy liners - i live in Botswana and we can get them there and at Spar.

Summary of the essay:
I use alva all in ones for night - i have 6 - with flip inserts and alva inserts and he goes 13 hours with no problems (10 month old)
I use flip covers (6) with chinese prefold inners (I got 20 and don't need nearly that many) - work like a bomb and very easy to use.

enjoy making your mind up and beware of the addiction to soft cloth bums (and the forums about them!)
