Help- I'm officially a cloth nappy user!!

Also, I never use bum cream. You shouldn't use bum creams, not even with disposables, as they rub off the bum onto the nappy and make a waterproof layer on the nappy stopping absorbtion. 90% of the time that mommies complain about disposables leaking I've found that they use a thick layer of bum cream.

I use one insert during the day and at night I use 2. I do change her as soon as I can if she wets her nappy, but we do part-time EC so a lot of the time she uses the potty anyway. I do use liners when she's sick (like now) because often she will have a runny poo, so I just make sure the liner isn't sticking out too much because I think that might contribute to a leak.

I have both the smooth and velvety nappies in various colours/prints. The velvety ones seems to fit more snug around her legs, but all fit well. What I do do, is when I snap the smooth one closed, I snap the furthest outside snaps together then pull as tight as needed and snap the middle ones (doesn't really make sense does it, I think I read something about it on the Snugglybum website to stop the edges coming out)

Sarah, how many inserts do you use for your bumbeetles? And which colour/ type of material is the cover made of? Would love to figure out how to stop the leaking.

I have Stegi, Bambino Mio, Bumbeetles and normal terry squares. I like them all, except the Stegi covers. I use my Bumbeetles at night a lot because they fit so well, I have only ever had a leak when my baby was little (under 6 weeks) and still having really runny poo.

I used folded muslin squares for the first few weeks, then Bambino Mio, then Stegi and BM from about 10 weeks. Now I just grab whatever is closest!

You can get quite a few BM and Stegi 2nd hand. If you're in Pretoria I'll happily lend you a few Stegi and BM to try if you want?

Also the difference between the biodegradable liner and the ones from pick 'n pay is their thickness and efficiency. The cheaper liners really are very thin and runny poo goes right through onto the nappy and makes cleaning a bit harder. For solid food poop they are ok but not for the runny stuff.

@ SimoneC, you can only buy these specific liners from me or directly from Cherub Tree or Mother Nature products who both have online stores. It's the same price everywhere and you will pay the same postage. Wellness Wharehouse also sell these liners and Kids emporiums but they might put their prices up.

I started using cloth on my son when he was 6 months old. I read up as much as I could about cloth nappies and then picked three brands which I tried out.

In the end Cherub Tree won for me, but the poppers, not the velcro (I don't like velcro).

Good luck with your decision - you won't look back. Today's cloth nappies are so damned cute!

Use disposables those first few weeks and then try a few cloth brands and see which works best for you.
