Help- I'm officially a cloth nappy user!!

I cant wait to strat using mine (in hopefully 3 months!)

I rinse under cold water with a quick scrub usually with Super 10 spray. Also wash on cold and I usually just chuck them in with whichever load is on. Only my nappies I wash on warm - usually 30 degrees.

GwenE, I keep a nail brush in the bathroom. If I get a dirty cover, I brush off the poo under running water. It cleans it nicely most of the time. If its still stained I also rub it with green sunlight (or boere seep, got some as a prezzie) then wash with the next load of clothes in the machiene. I wash everything except nappies in cold water.

Thank-you so much for the advice and encouragement...I'm going to persevere a bit longer with these nappies and see how it goes.
I really still love the concept and love that these nappies are so easy to wash and dry(living in Durban that is a huge factor) and are less bulky than a full disposable

I have truly had a love hate relationship with them this whole time LOL

One more quick question...how do you wash your covers especially after a poo nappy...I found very few breastfed poo nappies didn't dirty the cover...have been scrubbing them with sunlight green soap. I made the mistake early on of throwing them in with the nappies on a hot wash and I messed up the velcro...it curls up and I worry that it will scratch her.

Luckily she moved onto one to two poo nappies a week until she started teething.

I also noticed less nappy rash than when I use disposables(when we go camping)

GwenE, I use BM on my LG. She is 11 weeks now and about 6 kg. I do get little leaks at the legs if i don't change every 3 hours during the day. But at night I hardly ever have leaks and I don't change her at all during the night.

Up to now I have used the newborn cover with a runny poo fold. This works great for me. I started using the small covers last week and I think they are still a bit big (but the newborn is now really small!!) so I use them during the night.

I do make my own nappies as well, I use terrycloth (glodina quality) and I use these at night. They are slightly bigger (maybe 2 cm) than the BM nappies, with an extra pad (just a extra terry strip) in the middle.

For my LB (19 months) I also use terrycloth to make the nappies but I put an extra strip of felt or fleece between my nappy and my extra terry strip in the middle. He is now using disposables at night as none of my tricks are working for his extra extra large bladder. Not many of the disposable nappies can even hold his night time pee. I find only the new P'nP daipers works for him.

GwenE, if you are seriously considering getting rid of your BM set, I'll gladly buy your covers from small to potty.

With my 2nd child I now see that the Stegi covers are not nearly as good quality as the BM covers. I can't re-use many of them, so I'm buying BM covers as I go along. All my LB's BM covers are still in good condition so I can re-use all of them. I'm planning to one day have a 3rd child, so I think the BM's are the best to get.

I use the runny poo fold (za.bambinomio.com/nappysystem/user-guide number 3). As I mentioned I use folded Muslin squares at night and with that use a fleece liner. During the day I use either fleece or a disposable paper liner depending on which is closest to hand!

I have noticed that sometimes the nappy is dry but her clothes are damp during the day if I use a fleece liner - almost as if she wee's hard and it runs across the liner instead of going through and into the nappy. If you're changing her throughout the night it should be fine, but perhaps try a different liner?

I also alternate between Stegi and BM - again, whichever is closest to hand! I find the Stegi a bit more absorbent but more bulky.

Thanks for the reply...I haven't been using a booster but I usually get up at least twice to feed and change her. I was using the small cover size with the plain girl fold...last night I went back to the newborn cover and poo fold and didn't have any leaks. But i think it's a bit tight for during the day when she's moving around more.

Which fold do you use? And do you use a liner? Should i double up with two BM nappies at night as a booster? The only thing is that when it leaks the nappy is usually hardly damp at all...it could be the liner against the edge of the cover.

When she wears the small size cover the elasticated legs creep up her thigh... she is a rather thin long baby though
